Seeking Season Two
Wonderfalls e8 - Lovesick Ass
A bride-to-be arrives from Russia with a suitcase full of hope and lands in the most Niagara moment imaginable: Fountains of Love, a canceled ceremony, and a groom who’s actually thirteen with a Photoshop habit. We dig into the chaos of Wonderfalls “Lovesick Ass,” tracing how a catfish detonates more than a wedding plan and forces everyone—Jaye, Eric, and a grief-numbed dad—to decide what love looks like when your compass is spinning.
We talk through Jaye’s tug-of-war with intimacy and why Eric finally feels like more than the “lovesick” label. From the rooftop satellite install to donuts shared with a stranger, his quiet competence turns into a steady presence, culminating in a cabin standoff, a clean disarm, and a first kiss that actually feels earned. Along the way, we question the muses’ near-silence—were they nudging Jaye toward risk, Katya toward closure, or just stirring trouble? The humor still hits: the wax lion’s “This isn’t fun for anybody,” the lovesick donkey’s blunt advice, and a flaming car that punctuates denial with a literal boom.
Not every beat works. A sudden punch from Peter’s father strains character logic, and the finale pairing of Katya with Dick Johnson reads more like a writer’s shortcut than a believable connection, even with those recycled love letters. We call out the odd edits, celebrate the sharp lines, and land on what keeps this story compelling: small choices that build trust, boundaries that teach, and attraction that demands clarity. If you love character-driven TV analysis, messy romance arcs, and a little snark with your sentiment, you’ll feel right at home here.

Welcome.
SPEAKER_03:Wow. What just happened there? Wow.
SPEAKER_00:I don't know what happened. Wow. Um, I think I just hit puberty.
SPEAKER_03:My balls just dropped.
SPEAKER_00:Exactly. Dropping the balls. Welcome, everyone, back to another fantastically fun episode of Seeking Season 2. I am your host, Andrew, and my lovely co-host. Catherine. Hello, Catherine. Hello. How are you? I am fine, thank you. And you? I'm great. We we just finished uh sushi. Yep. Which was which was delightful. It was. So, and now we're gonna cover two episodes. Well, we're gonna cover one episode in this one episode of Wonderfalls in this episode of the podcast.
SPEAKER_03:As you may have figured out, we do two at a time. And I get very confused.
SPEAKER_00:I know. It does get very confusing, so we will we will try not to confuse you as as much as we are. Um, so this is episode eight of Wonderfalls. Um Love Sick Ass. I keep wanting to say season one, but there's only season one.
SPEAKER_03:That's all we got.
SPEAKER_00:Hence the name of the podcast.
SPEAKER_03:That's the whole concept of the podcast.
SPEAKER_00:So this is, yes, episode eight, love sick ass.
SPEAKER_03:Yep.
SPEAKER_00:So that is it's not someone's ass, it's an actual donkey. Donkey. Love sick donkey. Donkey. Donkey. Panky. Or is it waffles? That's what it is. I mean waffles. All right. So you wanna you wanna hit us with some of the the deeds? Sure. Awesome.
SPEAKER_03:Directed by Todd Holland, written by Todd Holland, Brian Fuller, Dan E. Fessman, and Harry Victor.
SPEAKER_00:That's a lot of writers for this up for one of these episodes.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, a lot of writers on this one. Our also starring is Spencer Breslin, uh, who I haven't seen much of, but I think his sister Abigail is pretty well known. So Spencer Breslin, brother of Abigail Breslin. Yes.
SPEAKER_00:And uh has he done anything recently? I don't know. Let's take a look.
SPEAKER_03:I know I looked when I first watched it and I don't remember anything, so probably not, but let's see.
SPEAKER_00:Probably probably chose like just going, like decided to go to college and be a normal, normal kid.
SPEAKER_03:So he is now 33 if you want to feel old. Wow. Um, he acted until it looks like he's doing voice work now.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, good for him. Um got a face for radio.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, and that he's done like some movies, but nothing that you would have ever heard of. Got it. Uh and now as of 2016, he was co-hosting a podcast.
SPEAKER_00:All right. And that's isn't everybody isn't everybody co-hosting a podcast these days. I mean, yeah. Let's see. I mean, we are.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I mean, he's in he's still acting, but not in anything anyone would have ever heard of.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, good for him. As long as he's enjoying himself. Yeah. That's all that matters.
SPEAKER_03:Well, as long as he can pay his rent because, you know, eating is fun.
SPEAKER_00:Eating is fundamental.
SPEAKER_03:He apparently played Curtis the Elf in the Santa Claus. Did he? And the Santa Claus II. I don't know if the Santa Claus II is in there.
SPEAKER_00:That reminds me of the kid from uh Christmas story. He played the one elf in uh in elf.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. I mean, they're just child, child stars.
SPEAKER_03:So Spencer, playing elves, as I suspected, did not quite have the career of his sister.
SPEAKER_00:That's okay. We still like him. What whatever he chose to do with his life is is he's probably got like a regular job, I would guess.
unknown:I don't know.
SPEAKER_00:Or does he do a ton of voice work?
SPEAKER_03:He might be producing too.
SPEAKER_00:Oh. He went the producing route.
SPEAKER_03:Although when I see him as a very young kid, I recognize him.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, sure. Yeah, he's one of the like, hey, that's that kid. Mm-hmm. I recognize him. Nice. Anyone else?
SPEAKER_03:Who I guess that was that was the only other I mean uh they didn't really name who the woman who played Katya was.
SPEAKER_00:They didn't name her?
SPEAKER_03:Well, I mean they named her somewhere, but I didn't see it as anything interesting. I think I actually looked her up and I think she was actually a Russian actress.
SPEAKER_00:Fascinating.
SPEAKER_03:Which is funny because I didn't find the accent all that convincing.
SPEAKER_01:You go to Russia. I go Russia.
SPEAKER_00:Or it could be, you know, Natalie from 90 Day. But anyway.
SPEAKER_03:You're stealing one of my things for later.
SPEAKER_00:Sorry.
SPEAKER_03:Uh I'm looking it up to see if I can find her now.
SPEAKER_00:Okay. Anyway, while you do that, let's talk about the synopsis of the episode.
SPEAKER_03:Okay.
SPEAKER_00:So we we it starts on Katya. We don't know what's Katya. Sitting outside. The the kind of what do you call that? The patio area outside of Wonderfalls gift shop.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I'm not sure. Whatever that the fountain area.
SPEAKER_00:Fountain area. Um sure there's a technical term for that. Um, she's sitting out there watching all these couples in love and you know, eagerly awaiting like her. She's obviously waiting for waiting for somebody. And we find out later that she is waiting for someone named Peter, her supposed fiance that she met online.
SPEAKER_01:Right.
SPEAKER_00:And Jay and Eric decide to help Katya find Peter. Because Peter's basically stood her, stood her up. Well, because they they they realize that she's gonna go to the what? The fountain. Is it what fountains of love? Mm-hmm. Which is the Mahondra tells them is the the name of a wedding chapel. Wedding chapel. So they go down to Fountains of Love, find out that the wedding was canceled, and um some shenanigans ensue, and Eric basically has a panic attack, passes out, and Jay steals the record entry from the logbook and hightails it out of there.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:And we find out that Peter is actually a 13-year-old boy, just about to be just on the cusp of 14.
SPEAKER_03:Which makes it so much better.
SPEAKER_00:Or 40. Um, because he he aged himself with the with Photoshop or something. Uh and so yeah, Katya's trying to deal with all that. Jay and Eric are are their relationship grows closer, and Jay threatens Peter to stay away from Katya, and Peter apparently likes a very strong, strong woman because this now changes his attraction from Katya to Jay. And there's a whole thing about she thinks that Jay and Eric are together, that they're boyfriend and girlfriend, so he's trying to break them up to um steal Jay for himself. Right. Um lots to lots to unpack there. So that's the that's the brief highlights. What's you want to do the deep dive?
SPEAKER_03:Sure.
SPEAKER_00:Are you petting Mulder?
SPEAKER_03:I am petting Mulder.
SPEAKER_00:Don't look behind you.
SPEAKER_03:Hi, Scully.
SPEAKER_00:Scully is behind you. All right. Deep dive. Let's do the deep dive. Okay. Let's break down the plot.
SPEAKER_03:Okay. So we start out with Eric on top of uh Jay's mobile home installing a satellite dish.
SPEAKER_00:Hot Eric.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, while Jay and Mahandra are sitting in chairs on the ground just gawking.
SPEAKER_00:Ogling, ogling, ogling. Yes. Umogling. Yeah, they're they're they're like, they're eyeing up that piece of man meat.
SPEAKER_03:Like, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:My God.
SPEAKER_03:But then she's also talking about how, oh, it's not a time for me, good time for me to get into a relationship. But like obviously everything is drawing her to Eric.
SPEAKER_00:Of course.
SPEAKER_03:Um, this is, and I know we'll get to favorite moments, but I'm just gonna say very quickly my favorite moment is the wax lion in the bookend.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Inappropriate touching.
SPEAKER_00:Well, because I I take it one further than that. Okay. So, because that's what so the the monkey goes, inappropriate touching, yeah, and then the lion goes, This isn't fun for anybody.
SPEAKER_04:Yes.
SPEAKER_02:So good. So good.
SPEAKER_00:It's it's it's I mean, because there's is this the episode where there's really not much of the muses in it, right? Because you mentioned that.
SPEAKER_03:Um, yeah, so you have them, so you have the wax lion in the bookend for like a very brief time. Right. And then um when she finally sees, and we can keep going, um basically Jay finds sorry, back up. Yes. Oh, did we just you just rewound that, huh? That was that was good to do that. I rewound that for you. Thank you. You're welcome. Um so the next day at work, barrel bear and lovesick ass, and this is really the only time we see them, right? Uh tell her that girl needs a boy. Yes. And then that's when Jay goes outside and finds Eric giving donuts to who we find out is Katya, right, who's at the fountain. She's here from Russia. She came here to meet a man. She was stood up.
SPEAKER_00:Well, doesn't the lovesick ass also say eat a donut?
SPEAKER_03:Oh, yeah, he does.
SPEAKER_00:He says something about like go eat a donut.
SPEAKER_03:When she's in the yeah, when she's in the the like coffee room or whatever.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Yeah, so they yeah, so they talk about going to go and eat a donut as well. Yeah, and then cut to cut to the outside when Jay sees Eric with Katya and eating donuts. Eating donuts.
SPEAKER_03:Which he was bringing to Jay.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, he was to his credit, which was very nice of him.
SPEAKER_03:But he saw someone who was hungry and and he sees Jay as this very magnanimous giving person because she does the bidding of the muses. Right. So I'm sure he thinks he's just doing what Jay would do. Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure Jay just wants that box of donuts.
SPEAKER_00:I think she does. At least a donut. I don't know if she wants the whole box of donuts. I mean, who am I to judge? I'd eat the whole box of donuts.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, right. Fight you for them.
SPEAKER_00:Exactly.
SPEAKER_03:Um, so we kind of talked about this at the top, but they go to the wedding chapel to try to find out what happened. Eric passes out. All of this just kind of reinforces Jay's concern about getting into a relationship, even though they're attracted to each other.
SPEAKER_01:Right.
SPEAKER_03:Um, they find the address, show up at the house, find out Peter is a 12-year-old or 13-year-old, I guess. Yeah. Yep. Um, Katya's really mad. And she's staying with Jay now because there's nowhere else for her to go. Correct. Um, we talked about then Peter develops a crush on Jay.
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_03:Uh Jay tries taking Peter to his dad, but Peter gets pissed off, and then the dad is just a total dick. And that's pretty funny because his name is Dick.
SPEAKER_00:His name is Dick. Dick Johnson.
SPEAKER_03:Big Dick Johnson.
SPEAKER_00:Of all names. Well, Peter Johnson and Dick Johnson.
SPEAKER_03:I'm like, this is This is what happens when four people write an episode. Wow.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:So there was well, well, there was also a whole thing when Eric got punched by the father.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, yeah, that's right. So there's a father has um some anger issues, which we later learn are because the his wife died.
SPEAKER_00:Well, that like that's the whole thing. Like, he doesn't, that's one of the things that so we talk about things that worked and didn't work in this episode. The whole thing about him punching Eric doesn't work for me.
SPEAKER_03:No, me.
SPEAKER_00:Because he does not he does not come off as a violent guy. He comes off as a guy who's doing his best because his wife passed away.
SPEAKER_03:He's stuck with this kid who's kind of difficult. Well, he's a teenager. I mean he's a teenager who lost his mom.
SPEAKER_00:He's a teenager who lost his mom, and the dad is struggling with with how to how to be both parents to the kid. So like I don't I didn't I didn't find the him punching Eric.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Like I did, I just didn't that didn't that didn't work for me.
SPEAKER_03:But um the father punches him because the kid gives himself a black eye. I'm trying to remember.
SPEAKER_00:I don't even remember that's why I don't even remember why.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:I don't remember why the father punched Eric and and like he just comes back with a black eye and was like, I tried talking to the dad, and it was like, wait, what it was it was all that part was very confusing. Yeah. So there's a a lot of a lot of black eyes, um, not black guys, black eyes, black eyes, which reminds me of that show. Was it Undateable? What was the show that had the bar, the black, the black eyes? Undateable with uh funches and problematic guy and remember because the bar was the bar was like the black eyes, and there was it was always like a whole thing about okay. Hang on.
SPEAKER_03:Let's Okay, are we pausing?
SPEAKER_00:We're not gonna pause. I'm just gonna I'm just gonna go into this. Let's see. Safari on the laptop, black eyes bar, the TV show.
SPEAKER_03:Was it undateable?
SPEAKER_00:So it was undateable.
SPEAKER_03:Okay.
SPEAKER_00:A promising candidate is Justin, the owner of the Black Eyes, frequently mispronounced Black Guy's Bar. So it was like it was a whole thing.
SPEAKER_02:Right. Um running joke.
SPEAKER_00:It was a whole running joke through the through the whole TV show. But yeah, that was undateable with Ron Funches. And what's the what's the what's the problematic guy's name? I'm trying to remember. I mean, I could just go to IMDB here in a second. This director's writer's come on, cast. Oh, Chris Christalia.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, Chris Dalia. Problematic.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. But they had Brent, Brent Morin.
SPEAKER_03:And it had Rick Glassman, who I love.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. That's some really good people in it.
SPEAKER_03:It was actually a really funny show.
SPEAKER_00:I liked the show.
SPEAKER_03:As did I.
SPEAKER_00:How many seasons did that get? That got a bunch, that got a few seasons, didn't it? Three. Three seasons. So that doesn't qualify for this one. But but it gave us the gift of Ron Funches, and for that I will always be grateful. Ron Funches. Love Funches. Bunches of Funches. So anyway, rabbit hole. Um, where were we?
SPEAKER_03:We were talking about the black guys.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, so yeah, so so the black eyes. Yeah. Not the black guys. Not the black guys, the black eyes. Right.
SPEAKER_03:We are in the black eyed peas. I know. Do you know how frequently I reference vaguely Asian magazines? Too often, right? All the time. And if you don't know what we're referring to, please look up the Saturday Night Live sketch with Apple D app and taboo from the Black Eyed Peas because it is so funny.
SPEAKER_00:Who was it?
SPEAKER_03:It was uh Andy Sandberg? It was Andy Sandberg.
SPEAKER_00:Was Andy Sandberg taboo?
SPEAKER_03:I believe he was. And it was Keenan.
SPEAKER_00:Hi, buddy.
SPEAKER_03:Hi, come here, Hansa. Are you walking toward me? Do you look less chubby? Have you lost some weight?
SPEAKER_00:No, no, he hasn't. He has not. Mulder has not lost weight. In fact, I think he has put on weight.
unknown:Come here.
SPEAKER_00:It's getting close to feeding time, so they're.
SPEAKER_03:I see.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. So natives are getting restless. The natives are. Yeah, Frank. Franklin will start start making his presence known.
SPEAKER_03:So I think he's in with Laura, so maybe not.
SPEAKER_00:Oh good. Um yeah, so so then Katya's staying with Jay, and then and then Jay, and then Katya and Eric kind of have a moment because Katya cleans up the the trailer. Right. And Eric comes over with vodka. And again, another thing, another weird.
SPEAKER_03:I saw your note on this in the yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, she's like, I'll put it in the freezer. And then she opens the refrigerator door and sticks it in.
SPEAKER_03:Yep.
SPEAKER_00:Like, I don't know if it was just a miscut because she also then pulls out the um that fish in jello. Ugh. Which is horrific looking. Yeah. Um, so I don't know if it was just a cut of like then her supposed to be pulling out the jellofish. Um jellowfish. Um good old jellyfish. You know, good old, good old Russian Russian jellyfish.
SPEAKER_03:Russian, that's actually the name of the dish. Go to a restaurant and order it. Jell Ofish.
SPEAKER_00:You have to order it in Russian, though. Hang on.
SPEAKER_03:Oh boy.
SPEAKER_00:You know, you know I'm doing this. I know you're doing this. Okay. Jell Of. Let's see. Oh, no. I don't know how to use this app.
SPEAKER_01:Okay.
unknown:Okay.
SPEAKER_01:Uh-oh. Fish.
SPEAKER_03:What do you call a fish with no eyes?
SPEAKER_00:I can't even I I mean. I can't even pronounce that, so.
SPEAKER_03:Yep. Perfect.
SPEAKER_00:But but it does try let me go to Google Translate. I'm using Apple Translate, so let's go to Google Translate, because I think Google Translate may actually speak it for me. Let's see. Punjabi, no. Samoan, no. Russian, yes.
SPEAKER_02:I didn't know Samoan was its own language. I just learned something new today. It might just be English. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00:With a Samoan accent.
unknown:I I don't know.
SPEAKER_00:English with a Samoan accent.
SPEAKER_02:Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01:Okay. Oh boy. Okay, hang on.
SPEAKER_00:Oh. That's what you have to order.
SPEAKER_03:Jell O fish.
SPEAKER_00:Jell-O fish.
SPEAKER_03:Is that a literal translation of jello fish? I I'm just look, I'm I Well, I'm just saying, like, that probably is not going to be a recognizable delicacy if you go to a restaurant.
SPEAKER_00:Let me translate it back.
SPEAKER_03:Okay.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, they call that that translates to jellyfish. Oh. So hang on.
SPEAKER_03:Well, you might get jellyfish for dinner.
SPEAKER_00:I don't want jellyfish for dinner. I don't want to.
SPEAKER_03:Well, you might get it. Fish. You'll get it and you'll like it and you'll and you'll say very nice things about it.
SPEAKER_00:Fish in jello. Yeah. There you have it. Cool. Fish in jello. And that translates back into English, fish in jelly. So close enough.
SPEAKER_03:Apparently they don't have a word for jello.
SPEAKER_00:Gosby.
SPEAKER_01:Oh boy.
SPEAKER_00:I know I'm in trouble. I just got canceled.
SPEAKER_03:I mean, we already talked about Chris Dalia, so we're hitting all the highlights today.
SPEAKER_00:Okay, so anyway, we have an episode to talk about. So it was this whole kind of angsty kind of um is Eric interested in Katya? And because Jay's like, Jay is actually kind of, I think, getting jealous.
SPEAKER_03:She absolutely is.
SPEAKER_00:And then she's like, she's like, well, like, are you into her? He's like, if I were into her, why would I be helping her find her husband, like find her fiance? Right. And then afterward, then she's like, she's still jealous. And she's like, she's like, well, why are you interested in her? He's like, or why are you interested in her now? She's like, well and he's like, well, because she's not engaged anymore. She's single. So he's like, you know, like, what do you care?
SPEAKER_03:It's like, well, because she's been very standoffish.
SPEAKER_00:Aloof?
SPEAKER_03:Yes.
SPEAKER_00:Yes. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_03:Both of those things.
SPEAKER_00:Yes.
SPEAKER_03:Both standoffish and aloof.
SPEAKER_00:Aloofish. Aloofish. Back to fish. See, we're back to aloofish. Like it's another type of fish. Yeah. Um. All the cuisines. The cuisines of the world. The aloofish, the fish and jelly, or the fish and jello, what what have you. Um see we're we're an all-around podcast. We don't just talk, we we get we get down into the in the nitty-gritty.
SPEAKER_03:We're really in the important thing.
SPEAKER_00:The cuisine, the cuisine of Wonderfalls, ladies and gentlemen. The Wonderfalls cuisine. Yes. Very important.
SPEAKER_03:Not at all important.
SPEAKER_00:No. So not at all. So, not even a little. No. So, so hit me hit me with some more of the details on the deep dive. What what do we got? Not a whole heck of a lot more.
SPEAKER_03:So, next, um, Peter gets all pissed off when Jay takes him to his dad. So he steals Jay's car.
SPEAKER_00:Yes.
SPEAKER_03:And then um kidnaps Eric by telling him that Jay's in danger.
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_03:So Peter takes him to a cabin. Um, Eric has known the whole time that Peter was trying to kidnap him, so it's really not all that effective because he is a child and Eric when Peter goes to swing the bat at him. Yeah, he disarms him because he's an adult and Peter is a child. Yes. Um Jay shows up. Well, yes. So Jay shows up to um save Eric. Yes. And uh Eric finally asks Jay out on a date and they kiss. Uh, Peter comes out and admits that the better man got the girl. Right. And then Eric's car bursts into flames because Peter obviously was trying to kill him. Yes.
SPEAKER_00:Um, he's he's almost over it.
SPEAKER_03:And then uh what ends up happening is that's right, Franklin.
SPEAKER_00:That's Scully.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, I'm sorry. That's right, Scully.
SPEAKER_00:Scully's trying to get into the other room. I see.
SPEAKER_03:Well, so um meanwhile, Peter's father goes to Jay's um tail to Jay's trailer and meets Katya. Right. And of course, when everyone arrives back at the trailer, if the trailer's knocking, if the trailer's rocking, don't come a knocking.
SPEAKER_00:Because of course Sharon does knock.
SPEAKER_03:Of course she does because she's Sharon.
SPEAKER_00:Yes.
SPEAKER_03:Um, so in what I well, and we can get into this when we get into what works, what doesn't work. Yeah. Because I really hated that. What did you really hate? Um Katcha was. Yeah, that he got together with Katcha. Like the child did not do uh like a dating service like to hook up his dad with a Russian mail order bride.
SPEAKER_00:No, well, well, the whole thing, well, the the lead up to that was because all the love letters that Peter was sending to Katya. From the dad, yeah. Or what from the the love letters that the dad had written to his to Peter's mother. Right. So so it was it was like Katya had actually fallen in love with the father's you know, romantic uh writings.
SPEAKER_03:And then Dick says, the hell with my dead wife. Here's a hot Russian.
SPEAKER_00:Right. Exactly. I mean that I mean I I've seen it a hundred times. All the time.
SPEAKER_02:Thirty percent of the time it happens all the time.
SPEAKER_00:Exactly. Um, so yeah, so yeah, that that it was it was a weird ending. Like I I don't think that part was necessary. Yeah, I agree. Um so that I mean, because you have that listed as a subplot, the whole Katya dick dicking. Um that was just yeah, that was just they could have done without that part, I think.
SPEAKER_03:So should we do favorite moments?
SPEAKER_00:Let's do favorite moments, favorite moments, favorite moments.
SPEAKER_03:Is that our new song for favorite moments?
SPEAKER_00:We've got podcast favorite moments.
unknown:Okay.
SPEAKER_03:That's not you just trying something out.
SPEAKER_00:I was just I was just feeling it. I was just feeling favorite moments.
SPEAKER_03:I got it. All right.
SPEAKER_00:Um is my favorite moment of the podcast or favorite moments.
SPEAKER_03:I see. So I already talked about when was it Mahondra with the wax lion and the bookend? Yes, yeah. So there she's smushing them together, they're very upset about it. The bookend says inappropriate touching, and the wax lion says nobody's happy about this.
SPEAKER_00:Yes. Well, this isn't fun for anybody. Oh, that's right. This isn't fun for anybody.
SPEAKER_03:Um, I have literally written in my notes just she go Russia, and I will give the context on this now. At one point, Katya says she's going home to Russia, which immediately in my 90-day fiance loving head pinged uh Julia saying that she'll go Russia. Yes, and I was like, Oh, she goes Russia, she goes Russia, she goes Russia, yes, and then my third one was Sharon telling Jay, I just think it's funny you moved in with a woman before I did. Yes, I liked that. Yes, but that was pretty funny.
SPEAKER_00:Some of some of my just silly lines that that I thought were very funny was Katya going, I need bigger Peter.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Well, she got dick, so I was gonna say story of many women's lives. And then real subtle. And then I loved when she when she first met Peter, and she goes, I sent you my most intimate photograph. He goes, I know, I made them into my desktop wallpaper.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, that father really wasn't noticing anything, huh?
SPEAKER_00:Again, the father was probably still mourning his his dead wife, not enough to bang that rush in the back of Jay's drill. In Jay's bed. Hey, we all mourn in different ways. Do we? Not the way I mourn. No. But apparently, apparently that's how uh how Dick does. Guess so. Yeah. And then uh I loved, I loved when when Jay was when Jay, I don't know, she was picking up Peter or went to find Peter.
SPEAKER_03:Oh yeah. Didn't she like trick him into going to see his father by saying she'd go on a date with him? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:And that's why he goes, You're not dressed for an afternoon of Thaikovsky, Tchaikovsky, and heavy petting. He's a horned up little kid. I mean, he's I mean he's 13, so I mean he's a horned kid.
SPEAKER_03:He's a warned up little kid.
SPEAKER_00:He's a horned up little kid.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Um so that would those were some of my just favorite lines from from the episode. I thought it was I thought there's some good like the writing I thought was good.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, there was definitely there was definitely some very funny bits to it.
SPEAKER_00:So let's talk about what worked, what didn't work. Okay. Hit it.
SPEAKER_03:Wa. Okay. That's my music for what didn't work.
SPEAKER_00:Wait, wait, wait. Um record scratch? Record scratch. What didn't work? What worked? What didn't work? I need to incorporate that. Okay. What worked, what didn't work?
SPEAKER_03:So, as I kind of already alluded to, I really did not like Katya and Dick getting together. Right. That's gonna mentally scar that poor child for a lot.
SPEAKER_00:I'm sure.
SPEAKER_03:Um I mean, he's a little psycho, so he might just burn the house down with them in it, but um I guess because it's consistent with Jay's character, I do like the kind of um push and pull of her relationship with Eric. You know, she's not ever gonna really let herself be happy. And in the next episode, we'll see that when she does let herself be happy, it doesn't go the way you'd hope. Right. Um so I thought that actually worked pretty well. Right. Um I agree, I would agree with that. I like getting to see Eric as more of like a competent adult, um, especially with like the way he handles Peter when he's you know trying to trying to trick him.
SPEAKER_00:Yes.
SPEAKER_03:Um so I thought that worked pretty well too. Like you're you're seeing a little bit of an evolution in Eric because he really just started as like a lovesick ass.
SPEAKER_00:I was just I was I was gonna just say that.
SPEAKER_03:So and you know, he's definitely evolved into an actual character, so I like that.
SPEAKER_00:I I would I would totally agree with that assessment. Um yeah, he he's his his character has probably has probably had the most like character development. He's probably been the most developed character over the whole season. I mean, other than Jake is I mean, she's obviously the like the lead, but I mean of all of all the I don't want to call him a secondary character, but like the rest of the cast, I feel like he's gotten the most development, obviously because they're building up that relationship, so um, so it makes sense, but they they definitely have um have made a more less of a two-dimensional kind of character about my wife dumped me, you know, let me find like love again, aka lovesick ass. Right.
SPEAKER_03:Um, I don't think his wife dumped him. I think she died. Didn't she die? No, I think she died. Oh, she didn't know.
SPEAKER_00:The wife was given the uh given a blowy to the Oh no, no, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_03:I'm thinking about uh Dick's wife.
SPEAKER_00:Dick's wife died.
SPEAKER_03:Yes, yes, yes. Eric's okay, got yeah, because she shows up in the next episode, so yeah.
SPEAKER_00:So there's all that. Sorry. Uh no, it's alright. Um didn't she die? Sorry. No, she didn't die. Um but some of the some of the things that didn't work for me, some there were some weird edits in this episode. So there's there's the scene with Peter, Jay, and Eric at the table in the barrel. Yeah. And that's when like Eric or Peter leaves and Jay goes after him to threaten him to stay away from Katya. Right.
SPEAKER_03:So oh yeah, she just leaves Eric there.
SPEAKER_00:Well, she leaves Eric there, and yeah, she storms out of the restaurant, but then Eric later goes, Eric makes a comment about like seeing you, like he makes a comment like he saw her do this to Peter. Like yell at like threaten Peter. And I'm like, he was back sitting at the table, like he didn't see that happen.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Because I was like behind a column. So it was it was like really weird writing because like the writing didn't match what almost more a weird directing. Well, the writing just didn't match what you saw on the screen.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, but what I'm saying is the director should have said, Hey, be somewhere you can see this happening.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, if he had read the whole script, right? Maybe he didn't read the whole script.
SPEAKER_03:Perhaps.
SPEAKER_00:Maybe he was just winging it.
SPEAKER_03:I mean, that's what I generally do.
SPEAKER_00:Right? That's what we're doing right now.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, we didn't even watch the episode.
SPEAKER_00:Who? Huh? What show? Yeah. I don't know. I have no idea. Who are you? That's a great question. Who are who are any of us?
SPEAKER_03:Who is any of us?
SPEAKER_00:I am you and you are me and we are no, wait. And I'm the walrus? Goo go too. Um yes. I am the egg man.
SPEAKER_03:And we are all together.
SPEAKER_00:So that's some of the stuff that didn't, yeah. And obviously, the my whole issue with the vodka in the fridge or freezer, or what the hell happened there, I don't know. Um, the vodka ended up somewhere. Um again, the writing doesn't match what you saw in the like it's like that's why I'm trying to figure out if like they just did like weird edits in the in the edit room, like to cut down the episode.
SPEAKER_03:Right.
SPEAKER_00:So, like maybe like because again, maybe she put the vodka in the fridge, but then when we see her opening the in the freezer, and then when she we see her opening the fridge, maybe that's when she's pulling out the jello fish.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, because it's not like it's a huge fridge.
SPEAKER_00:No, exactly, and that was a big bottle of vodka.
SPEAKER_03:It's the best kind of vodka, big big bottle, the big bottle of vodka.
SPEAKER_00:That's how you know it's good.
SPEAKER_03:Exactly.
SPEAKER_00:30% of the time it works all the time. Um anything behind the scenes. Um fun facts. I didn't have either of those. No, not really. Well, you make the comment about the muses almost entirely absent.
SPEAKER_03:Other than like the very beginning of the episode. And I like when the muses are in it because I think it was a little I think a lot of the time it's in the beginning, it's not obvious what the muses are trying to do.
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_03:Um, but toward the end, should I just back up and start over?
unknown:Yes.
SPEAKER_03:How much of you doing rewind noises are you gonna leave in this episode? I don't know. Hey, you want some dinner, don't you? Oh, she wants dinner enough that she'll actually come to me.
SPEAKER_00:Wow, Scully.
SPEAKER_03:She's like, is there anything I can eat on your hand?
SPEAKER_00:Well, that's what you have to do with her. She won't let you pet her first.
SPEAKER_03:But she'll come to you.
SPEAKER_00:She has to sniff your hand first, and then she'll let you pet her. But it's like it's very particular. You can't just go to pet her because she'll like reel back.
SPEAKER_03:Mulder is almost the same way, though.
SPEAKER_00:Mulder has to like let you rub the side of his face, and then you can yeah, he's yeah, and then you can pet him. He's a very particular boy.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Anyway.
SPEAKER_03:You got some particular cats. Yeah. Okay. So the thing about the muses. The thing about the muses is that I think most of the time you can figure out what they were actually trying to accomplish by the end of the episode. Right. Here, not sure. Were they trying to get Katya and Dick together? Were they trying to get Jay and Eric together? Was it both? Was it neither? I don't know. Exactly. And that's why I feel like you needed a little bit more of the muses throughout the episode to figure out like which which thing were they trying to make happen? Both? Maybe. But the world may never know. Because this was like 2003.
SPEAKER_00:I know. Maybe we'll have to ask Brian Fuller. Okay, yeah, I'll give him a call. Alright. So, okay, so interesting episode. So what do we it wasn't a problematic episode. It was, I would say it's an okay episode.
SPEAKER_03:It was alright. I mean, you know, I think the the concept of the Russian mail order bride is a little uh I mean she wasn't mail order, but you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00:Like the Russian bride thing was a little bit of uh this was what this is this is Wonderfalls before the 90 days, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_03:Um no, it would have to be 90 day fiance or she wouldn't have gotten here. I mean, that's the thing that makes no sense. How is she even here?
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_03:Is she on a tourist visa? How easy were those to get from Russia in the early 2000s?
SPEAKER_00:I don't really know. Uh so many questions. So many questions. We need to research that. I am sorry, I am sorry to our audience that we did not research the requirements in 2003 for Russians to get to the United States.
SPEAKER_03:Unless that psycho little kid managed to get a 90-day fiance visa.
SPEAKER_00:I mean, I mean he had to start with his credit card.
SPEAKER_03:He could have photoshopped pictures of the two of them together to make it look like they'd met.
SPEAKER_00:But they would he would have had to gone to a wouldn't he have gone had to gone to an embassy? Or I guess not him.
SPEAKER_03:I don't you have to mail it in. I think you can also do it through a lawyer.
SPEAKER_00:I don't know.
SPEAKER_03:We've been mailing this whole thing in, so no, we've been phoning it in. That's different.
SPEAKER_00:Anyway. So we'll have we'll have to we'll have to do some follow-up. We'll do that, we'll do that in our recap of the season. We'll we'll come back to 2003 uh immigration law.
SPEAKER_02:Perfect.
SPEAKER_00:If we had Sharon, if we had Sharon, the immigration attorney, we could we would have we would have answers to this. Where is Sharon when you need her? Yeah, seriously. Sharon. Sharon. Sharon!
SPEAKER_03:Sharon. Oh, R.I.P. Yeah, really. We miss you, Ozzy. Yes.
SPEAKER_00:All right. So I I I'd say this is like a seven out of ten. A little better than middle, but not a stellar episode. Maybe six and a half. What do you what do you think?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I'd say six and a half. I'd go thumbs mostly up on this one.
SPEAKER_00:Um thumb upper than lower.
SPEAKER_03:So yeah, it's like not quite mid. Yeah. It's as the kids say, it's not mid. It's a little above mid. I don't know what that would be.
SPEAKER_00:Would you would you give it a six seven? Oh sorry.
unknown:God help me.
SPEAKER_00:Oh boy. Wow. I'd give it a six point seven.
SPEAKER_03:Wouldn't be us if it didn't go off the rails.
SPEAKER_00:Anyway, the sound of Scully means it's the episode is over. Everybody, please, you know, follow us on the socials, which I think is only Instagram at this point. Um follow us on the social. On the social. Follow us on the soci insta, the IG, the gram.
SPEAKER_03:Rate, review, subscribe, please. Like, share, and unless you're gonna give us one star, in which case, please don't.
SPEAKER_00:Give us more than one star. So even Skullly's asking, begging. Scully's begging, begging you not to give us one star.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, anyway. Give us one star.
SPEAKER_00:So catch us in about 10 minutes for the next episode.
SPEAKER_03:Except for you, I think it'll be about two weeks.
SPEAKER_00:It'll probably be about two weeks.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:So we'll see you in 10 minutes.
SPEAKER_03:Thank you for listening.
SPEAKER_00:Thank you so much for listening. It's it's been more. So before before we go, yes, allow, allow me to jump into jump street. Um, yes, I'm gonna do this and this and this. I'm gonna log into oh, look at that. Seeking see wow. Oh, that's I'm looking at the first 90 days of all the episodes. So I'm gonna look at some of the stats. Oh, lovely. So for the last five episodes, we've had people from the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Germany, Nicaragua, and Spain. Hola, gracias. To the one person from Spain and Nicaragua, I guess Nicaragua. Nicaragua. That's two people. That's two people. German. Bienvenue, welcome. Guten Tag? It's Gutentag, hello. Guten Tag. Okay. Um Singapore, I apologize.
SPEAKER_03:Nope, got nothing.
SPEAKER_00:Australia, good day. Canada. It's this is this is Hello. It's it's what it's all about.
SPEAKER_03:Unless they're French Canadian.
SPEAKER_00:Bonjour.
SPEAKER_03:In which case they appreciate me saying that that bad French accent is not what they sound like.
SPEAKER_00:No. Yeah. Um, some of the top cities. Scarborough, Ontario. Nice. Top city in the last five episodes.
SPEAKER_03:Well, they probably they had the opportunity to actually watch these episodes on TV. Maybe that's why. Maybe.
SPEAKER_00:Maybe. Thank you. Thank you, Scarborough, Ontario, for listening to the podcast. We hope come back. Yes, Sydney, New South Wales.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, so instead of um, instead of good day, I think we should give them a little Aussie, Aussie, Aussie. Oi, oi, oi.
SPEAKER_00:Thank you. Thank you to the people in Sydney, Australia, for listening to the podcast. Ashburn, Virginia. Um.
SPEAKER_03:Which Ashburn could be cat.
SPEAKER_00:Could be.
SPEAKER_03:If it is, hello.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Oop. Um, Mount Dora, Florida. Okay. Mount or I don't even know her. Oh, um Hickory, North Carolina, one person. So there we got all sorts of people. Um, and Scully's here. Hi, Scully. I listen to the podcast. Yes, you do. Do you see that? I do. It says Jersey City. I mean, it's you're somewhere in there. Um Scully. Hi, Mulder. We got Mulder and Scully here keeping us company. Pretty girl. Yeah. Hi. Scarborough, Ontario is is really hitting it.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, nope. She sniffed me, but she still won't let me pet. Just let me pet you. Thank you. That was nice of you.
SPEAKER_00:Let's see.
SPEAKER_03:She's like, you got food for me?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:So again, thank you. Thank you all who are listening to this. Again, like, share, all the all the favorites, the the who's and the what's and the and everything. Thank you so much again. Just please um continue to keep listening. Check us out on social. We'll be we'll have another episode in two weeks, which is episode nine.
SPEAKER_03:Nine. Which is safety canary. For our friends in Spanish speaking countries. That is episode nueve. Si, gracias.
SPEAKER_00:Um español. You do. See. Sabado gigante. Dos mujeres, un camino. Dos mujeres.
SPEAKER_03:Con Eric Estrada. Un camino. We listened to that one. We watched that one when I was in high school to learn Spanish. In a Catholic all-girls high school. You did too? Yeah. Oh, so did we. Yeah, we watched a lot of Tenanovellas.
SPEAKER_00:Oh my God. Like it was, it was fantastic. Well, that's like, so, so, okay, so another tangent. Thank you all for hanging on to this point. Met Eric Estrada at Terrificon. Yep. And so nice.
SPEAKER_03:Yes.
SPEAKER_00:But the whole thing was he he grew up, I think, in Spanish Harlem.
SPEAKER_03:Yep.
SPEAKER_00:I think, I think it's where he said he grew up. Um, we had a whole conversation about this because I told him that part of my learning Spanish in high school was by watching Dos Meheters and Camino.
SPEAKER_01:Right.
SPEAKER_00:So excellent telenovela um about a man cheating on his wife with his mistress because he was a truck driver. Um quality, quality programming for a you went to a Christian school. A Baptist high school.
SPEAKER_03:I went to a Catholic high school and my Spanish teacher was a nun. Yeah. And she showed us this.
SPEAKER_00:So the whole thing was though, he he was he was helping his, I don't know, his grandfather, his father. He was like shining shoes and stuff, helping to earn money. Right. But the thing was, um, where where they were where he was working, everybody spoke English. So he had he he said he lost by the by the time he got cast for dos mujeres uncamino, he didn't speak a lick of Spanish. Right. So he had to go through and learn Spanish all over again. Yeah. And not just any Spanish, but like Mexican Spanish.
SPEAKER_03:Which is hard.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Yeah. So it was it was a we had a great conversation about this. Um, he was so nice.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I'm not surprised. He seems like a nice guy.
SPEAKER_00:We didn't even we didn't we we didn't even give Larry Wilcox the time of day, but um I mean he's no Eric Estrada. He is no Eric Estrada, Eric Estrada's a good looking fella, yeah. He's like what in his 70s now? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:So oh when we were coming out of Beetlejuice the other night, yes, tangent. Um tangent on a tangent. This is rabbit hole, rabbit hole, rabbit hole. Garage that I parked in was right next to Hades Town.
SPEAKER_00:And so you didn't use you didn't use the usual garage? No, my knee.
SPEAKER_03:I can't walk that far right now. Got it. Um especially we had gone to I had gone to Comic-Con the day before. Right, right. So my knee was shot, and it was Friday, so I just I parked closer. Makes sense. Um so it was right next to Hades Town. Yeah. When we got back to the garage, everybody was stage dooring Hades Town. Oh boy. And that's where they bring the car up. So as he's bringing the car up, there's all these people on the sidewalk in front of it, and I'm like, oh, we're never getting out of here. Enter handsome silver fox cop who moves all the people out of the way. Wow. This guy was so good looking that even Rob was like, oh, look at handsome cop. And I was like, he is good looking. Wow, he had like a full head of very silver hair. Nice, and he was super buff. I mean, a New York City cop, super buff. Um, and he moved all the traffic and got out into the street to direct me out. Wow. Yeah, how nice. My new favorite member of the NYPD.
SPEAKER_00:Thank you, NYPD.
SPEAKER_03:Thank you, hot silver fox cop.
SPEAKER_00:New York's finest. Yeah. A salute to all police officers, but mostly New York City. That guy.
SPEAKER_03:But mostly that one guy. That one guy.
SPEAKER_00:Excellent. So so we're gonna wrap this up one more time after after all the all the rabbit holes we've just just dove down. Um, again, thank you so much for listening. Everybody from everywhere, we love you, and we will see you in two weeks. Bye. Bye.
