Seeking Season Two
Wonderfalls e9 - Safety Canary
A first date at the zoo should be simple: a quiet walk, a curious look at endangered macaws, maybe a photo for later. Instead, we found ourselves untangling a talking safety canary, a flash-photo fiasco, and a midnight bird heist in a trash can—while Jaye and Eric try to define what they are without breaking what might be. “Safety Canary” aims to map every relationship in Wonderfalls at once, but we dig into why more isn’t better when the heart of the story is already fragile and worth protecting.
We walk through the episode’s best idea—how fear dresses up as responsibility—alongside the chorus of friends calling Jaye a “love killer” and pushing her toward retreat. Then we trace how the script splinters: Sharon’s mounting tension, a probable Thomas twist, Mahandra and Aaron’s forced spark, Penelope’s detours, and that final swerve with Heidi. There are bright spots: sharp one-liners, a perfectly petty “dead flesh” leather joke, and the thematic mirror of conservation and commitment. But when pronouncements replace subtext and spectacle crowds the core, the romance we came for starts gasping for air.
If you care about character-driven storytelling, this conversation is for you. We call the craft, the missteps, and the moments that still sing, then weigh whether the season can recover by tightening focus on Jaye and Eric and letting subplots breathe across episodes. Expect candor, humor, and a clear verdict: a thumbs down for the hour, and cautious optimism for the road ahead. If you’re watching Wonderfalls for the first time or revisiting with fresh eyes, press play, then tell us—did “Safety Canary” help the season soar, or clip its wings?
If you enjoyed this breakdown, follow the show, share it with a friend, and drop your own verdict in a review so we can feature it next time.
Everybody, welcome to another exciting episode of Seeking Season Two, where we are covering this season is episode nine covering Wonderfalls. And I am your host, Andrew, and this is my lovely co-host, Katherine. Catherine, who is currently hanging out with Dee Dee, the cat without fear.
SPEAKER_01:Daredevil. Yes, hi, Daredevil.
SPEAKER_03:And and as I mentioned yesterday, was not Malders, was Scully's gotcha day. Yeah. Malders is on the 25th, by the way.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, is it really? I have no idea.
SPEAKER_03:Well, because remember, they were no November-December cats.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. I remember we got him in November, and then we had to go back a couple weeks later for Jack.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, because he was having the dental work done.
SPEAKER_01:Yep.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:And then they realized, no, we can't give this cat antibiotics, so you might as well just take him.
SPEAKER_03:Exactly. Oh, poor Jack. I know. RIP. But anyway. So the whole premise here to Seeking Season 2 is we talk about TV shows that were canceled either midway or after after their first season aired. And we we go episode by episode and we will make a final determination if this show deserves a second season. Today we are covering, like I said, episode nine of Wonderfalls. Wonder Falls is a safety canary.
SPEAKER_01:Yes.
SPEAKER_03:No, go ahead. Episode nine calls.
SPEAKER_01:I was gonna say safety canary.
SPEAKER_03:Safety canary doing the safety dance. And we're gonna cover that episode today. And I I just gotta say off the bat, this was boring. It wasn't, I don't think it was boring, but I think they tried to cover too much in one episode, so they never covered quite enough of any of like the plots.
SPEAKER_01:It was also really heavy-handed, really, really heavy-handed with the whole like look, we gotta get the love birds to mate and oh relationships.
SPEAKER_03:Right. Like every relationship. This was they literally covered every relationship and and made up some new ones on the show. Like it was like, what the hell? Uh it was very strange. I again I just felt like they tried to cover too much. They were trying to get from point A to point B, and this was kind of the the the that middle way to to get from like the first half of the season, I think, to the second half of the season, and it just it just plopped. But we'll we'll talk all through it. Um you want you want to go over some of the initial uh tidbits of the episode before we get into the the plot and everything?
SPEAKER_01:Sure. You want to do like director, writer, ballmates.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah, let's let's talk all but let's talk about the the that type of information, whatever you want to call it.
SPEAKER_01:So directed by Todd Holland. Yes, written by Todd Holland, Brian Fuller, Danny Fessman, and Harry Victor.
SPEAKER_03:Yes. Four men who apparently know nothing about relationships, four men in a what kind of macaw?
SPEAKER_01:I forget.
SPEAKER_03:I don't remember.
SPEAKER_01:Four men in a bluebird and a blue macaw. Mm-hmm. And um, yeah, so four guys, and I feel like with Wonderfalls, every time you've got a ton of writers, the episode suffers for it.
SPEAKER_03:I know there it was just like they threw the kitchen, everything in the kitchen sank at this episode, and it would just yes, TD is causing trouble.
SPEAKER_01:This is the problem I have with her when I'm trying to work, too, is she can't get comfortable. Right. So she's just constantly moving. Oh, sorry, peanut.
SPEAKER_03:I hear you.
SPEAKER_01:Okay, all right. So let's see if we can get her to not climb my leg again.
SPEAKER_03:Right.
SPEAKER_01:Um, sorry.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, all good.
SPEAKER_01:This is the first episode we've ever uh recorded where we weren't in the same rooms. I know.
SPEAKER_03:So this is this is a fun, fun new adventure for us.
SPEAKER_01:And I had to weigh between do I record downstairs where Didi is, or do I record upstairs with the boys? And either way, there was bound to be trouble.
SPEAKER_03:So I'd be curious to see what those two would be like, especially Jordan.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Well, considering that I'm having to record this on my phone, I'm pretty sure that phone would be getting knocked over every 30 seconds. Probably. So probably not great. Probably not great at all. Our also starring we have Jewel State in a very, very brief appearance. Uh but Jewel State, who many people will probably know from Firefly, another show that should have gotten a second season.
SPEAKER_03:Never heard of it.
SPEAKER_01:Yep.
SPEAKER_03:No, never heard of it. No. What was it? Fire Firefish?
SPEAKER_01:Yes. Firefish.
SPEAKER_03:Firefish.
SPEAKER_01:Very well known. Created by created by Joss Whedon, Firefish.
SPEAKER_03:Wait, who? I I I I don't know the name.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Oh boy. And then our other also starlight starring as uh Penelope is Kelly Waymaier. Yes. Your uh fun little tidbit of information about her is that she appeared in three episodes of Star Trek Enterprise as a little butler. Yes, indeed. Um but Weymeyer uh suffered a very early death from um an illness that I believe when I read about it, they didn't even know she had. Yeah, that's unfortunate. So it looked like they were going to try to bring her on as a regular for um Star Trek, and then obviously she passed and they could not. So yeah, a sad end to that little story.
SPEAKER_03:Very unfortunate. There is a tribute at the end of this episode to her.
SPEAKER_01:Um I did not see that on the version that I watched. So that's interesting. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:So it it's the the the one that I watched. There's there's like a in memory of um oh that's nice. Right right at the end of the episode before the credits. Jeez. Because this this was this was you said you said this was the last thing that she did, right? Yes, yeah. So yeah, this was the very last thing that Kelly did.
SPEAKER_01:Should we give everybody a peek behind the curtain and let them know we tried to record this episode like a month ago? And we're so freaking slap happy that we ended up.
SPEAKER_03:Wow, that was that was something. Yeah, this is this is this is take two of us recording, recording on a podcast episode for for this TV episode. The we we typically record these two at a time, and that was the second of of the two that we were recording, and it was very it was it was it was later at night, and we were both very tired, and it it just went off the rails. Um really fast, very fast and very far. And and never it will never see the light of day.
SPEAKER_01:Um, I'm hoping you just just deleted that.
SPEAKER_03:No, of course not. Um, I'm I'll maybe I'll put an outtake at the end of this episode of just like how bad it was.
SPEAKER_02:But anyway, um thank god the divorce is already final. Wow, you'd be threatening me with outtakes from that.
SPEAKER_03:No, it'd be my own output. Remember when you what no, I guess it would have been my own outtakes. I wouldn't, I wouldn't, I wouldn't do that to you. Um, but we were both very slap happy at the recording. Um but anyway, yeah. So yeah. So again, so going back to Jewel State, it yeah, it's interesting. So I mean she plays she plays the she appears at the very end of the episode, um, appearing as as Eric's uh wife. I mean, they're I guess they they are they are still married at that point, so yeah, so she Heidi. Hmm? Heidi. Heidi is that was that her name? I don't even remember. Yeah, uh Heidi. So she appears as Heidi the wife of Eric, uh the Love Lorn bartender. And I I obviously she's in the next episode. Um I know that because I looked at IMDB and saw that she appears in the next episode.
SPEAKER_01:I was gonna say I haven't watched it yet because every time we do two at a time, I get confused. Right. So I figured since this was gonna be a one-off for us, that I would uh not watch it so that I wouldn't be confused for a change. Very nice. Well, that's good.
SPEAKER_03:Hopefully, hopefully that that that holds throughout this whole recording.
SPEAKER_01:Um but certainly gonna try.
SPEAKER_03:We'll we'll give it our best shot. So anyway, let's talk about the synopsis. The main plot it's messy. I don't even I don't even know. So the main plot well, let's talk about the synopsis first. So yeah, harkening back to last episode, right at the end is where that was what love sick ass. Mm-hmm. And it was um right at the end is where Eric and Jay kind of determined they wanted to take their relationship to the or I take the relationship to the next level, I guess, I guess explore a relationship between the between the two of them. Right. So this this ties right into this is like right after that, they're on their first date, and what I assume is their first date, um, and they are at the Niagara Zoo, and what the the whole episode kind of explores um their relationship, Jay's past relationships, and and how that how that's going how that's affecting this one because Mahondra plays a big role in this one, Tracy Toms. Um really I mean they all they all are talking about her past relationships, her, Sharon, Aaron, uh Aaron and Darren.
SPEAKER_01:I just have to say them all.
SPEAKER_03:Yuri, the exchange student. Um, you know, he still emails me.
SPEAKER_01:Poor Yuri. He's still emailing everyone in your family.
SPEAKER_03:He's still emailing. Well, he well, I don't know if he's emailing everyone because he says, so Aaron's the one that says he emails. Sharon says he writes her.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:So I don't know. I I I would I I guess I would assume that's email, but maybe maybe he's writing postcards. I don't I don't know. Yeah. But anyway. Um, so this whole episode is an exploration of um Jay's kind of conflict of her past relationships, and does she get into a relationship with Eric and and what what might happen? So it's you know, they refer to her for her, they refer to her as the man killer. Um yeah, she stomps on Eric's fake heart.
SPEAKER_01:Uh so that freaking heart flying out of his body into her hands multiple times. I'm like, come on, I know it's very weird. And I have it written in my notes um that I could have lived forever and ever without having to watch a man clip his toenails.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_01:That was horrifying.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, so let me tell you this. You want to hear horrifying? So do I? Yeah, you want to hear horrifying. So in the in the living, in the living room area with the TV, we've got the rear speakers set up. And no joke, the right rear speaker is right behind where I sit on the couch. Yeah, and I don't, I don't know if it's surround sound, but literally, like the the clipping of the toenails was right in my ear.
SPEAKER_00:Oh god.
SPEAKER_03:And it was just like it was like click, click, and I'm like, oh, it totally skipped me out. I just don't like I don't I don't need like I I thought like a toenail was gonna like hit me. That's that's how yeah real it sounded.
SPEAKER_02:So gross.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. Anyway. So where where to even begin with this one?
SPEAKER_01:I don't know. I mean, I guess we start with them at the zoo with the inciting incident.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, so yeah, so so again, so let's start there. First date. They are at the zoo. The Penelope is giving her lecture on the the blue macaws, whatever they are. I can't remember what they are.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I can't remember what they are either.
SPEAKER_03:Hang on, you want to give me one second? Yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_04:Um macaws and see if it tells me what kind of macaws they are.
SPEAKER_03:Hyacinth macaws.
SPEAKER_01:That's right. Okay.
SPEAKER_03:There we go.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. So she's talking the plight of the hyacinth macaws.
SPEAKER_03:The plight of the hyacinth macaws. That now it was Humphrey, right? Humphrey was the the male. Was it the woman that was the aggressive one? The female? The woman. Yeah, remember she pecked the female. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:She pecked her competition to death.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. So these are these are very interesting, macaws. They aren't they they're supposedly endangered. Um and you I I would have known that had I read the National Geographic article on them. Um that that Sharon apparently read. Um but but anyway, the this is where the safety canary comes in. And then safety canary says, take a picture.
SPEAKER_01:Take a picture, it'll last longer. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03:Take a picture, it'll last longer. And she's like, like, all she wants to do is just enjoy her date. And right, and the say and the safety canary is telling her to to take a picture.
SPEAKER_01:And so where also Eric is talking about how if the other person's saliva tastes good to you, you're compatible. Why? Why did we need any of this?
SPEAKER_03:It was that was a very weird comment.
SPEAKER_01:It was disturbing.
SPEAKER_03:I googled it by the way. And I couldn't find anything that that that confirmed that those four men who apparently wrote this in their boxers.
SPEAKER_01:Um came up, they made that up.
SPEAKER_03:They they it was it's so it's totally made up, but it's like of all things to make up, like I mean, they could have talked about pheromones because I gotta fidget. See he's segmented. Oh cute. Yeah, very nice.
SPEAKER_01:Sorry, that's what I'm fidgeting with.
SPEAKER_03:That's all that's all good.
SPEAKER_01:Um yeah, that was uh why would you even make that up?
SPEAKER_03:Why? Why I don't know why it's a it's a bizarre thing to make up. Like, like I say, I I would have talked about more about pheromones than anything else because that would tie more into the episode, right?
SPEAKER_01:And they get to that later, so it's like, yeah, I don't know. That whole I don't know, this whole episode was weird.
SPEAKER_03:That's when that's when Penelope, and this isn't this isn't one of my favorite moments, is just a comment that in in when Penelope says to Aaron later, your powerful sexual chemistry is too distracting. He's like, I get that a lot actually.
SPEAKER_01:I loved when the canary was trying to get them to get her to take a picture, and she's like, It says no flash photography, and so he puts his wing up in front of no. So it says flash photography, take a picture.
SPEAKER_03:Nice.
SPEAKER_02:I loved that. Okay, it's blocking it with his wing.
SPEAKER_03:So here, so so that this brings me to one of the issues that I had with the episode. Um they say no flash photography. So she she takes the the picture with the flash, and and it's the female, the the female bird that comes after her and is is is attacking. And right, but but then if if you notice, she's uh so she's on the ground being attacked by the bird because it because they do the camera angle from her POV, and all you all you see are all the tourists taking flash photos of her being attacked by now. Now all they're doing is egging it on. Like, so she wasn't the only one to like take a flash photo. So maybe the attack wouldn't have been no, I know they didn't start, but what I'm saying is maybe the attack wouldn't have been so bad had they not kept flashing their their cameras at at the bottom.
SPEAKER_01:I mean she had to use a topical ointment, so she did have to use a topical ointment.
SPEAKER_03:I think mom just wants you to lose weight.
SPEAKER_01:Uh no, mom wanted her to put on weight, she thinks she's too thin.
SPEAKER_03:Put on weight, she's too thin.
SPEAKER_01:She told her to take it with food. She told her to take a topical ointment with food, and she's like, It's a topical ointment. And Sharon says, I think she thinks you're too thin.
SPEAKER_03:That's what it was. Oh my goodness. But anyway, so okay, so birds attack.
SPEAKER_02:Yep.
SPEAKER_03:And Penelope gets gets relieved of her duties overseeing the birds. So she's duties. Well, I mean, because duty plays a lot into what happens next.
SPEAKER_01:Did that monkey throw its food at you?
SPEAKER_03:Sort of, in a way. But anyway, uh so like the whole episode just evolves into let's let's let's let's talk about the Jay Jay Eric relationship first. So it's the so Jay, everyone's telling Jay that she like destroys men. Because Sharon is telling her that she always had to pick up the pieces of every every boy that every boy's heart that that Jay broke along the way. Mahondra's telling her the same thing basically. Um and I and I think Jay truly likes Eric. Yes. And and so she's afraid. She's like, because she tells him in the one point, like, you know, like I'm I'm doing this to like basically save you. So I'm I'm doing this to save you so we can be together. So she's she's like breaking up with him so they can be together.
SPEAKER_01:I don't think she thinks they're gonna be together. I think she thinks they're gonna remain friends. Well, that's that's right. Right.
SPEAKER_03:She doesn't she doesn't want to, she doesn't want, she wants him in her life, but it can't be a romantic relationship.
SPEAKER_01:And you know, the thing that drove me crazy about that piece of it is that I think Mahan, I think everybody else, Mahandra, Sharon, right, really like drives that into her head because the way the episode starts out. She's just happy. You know, she's she's with Eric at the zoo, she's on the phone with him at Wonderfalls being all cutesy. And then people start like planting these seeds of doubt in her.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, it's not it's not her.
SPEAKER_03:It's not her, it's everybody else.
SPEAKER_01:Exactly.
SPEAKER_03:I love um, I liked Mahondra's comment because again, us us being cat owners, she's like, You're in the toying phase. I can almost hear my I can almost hear the clicking sound my cat makes.
SPEAKER_02:Yep, yep, exactly.
SPEAKER_03:But that's yeah, you're absolutely right. Uh Jay has Jay has no fear or worry about the relationship. Everybody else is like warning her, like, you're gonna break this guy's heart. She's like, What are you talking about?
SPEAKER_01:I mean, I think they portrayed this really well. Yeah, she's in that very early. Sorry, I gotta adjust that. She's in that very early um stage of a relationship where like there can be nothing wrong with the other person, like you're just filled with that like dopamine rush where it's like you're so excited, you found this person, you really click with, you're happy, and everybody is shitting all over that. It sucks.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Um, you know, I mean, happy is not something that we see very frequently on Jay. Like, you know, that's not her general like attitude. So it was actually kind of cute to see her be like, you know, on the phone all on the phone every time I see a landline, she's on the phone all with like the you know, you can like imagine her wrapping a cord around your finger, like you know, it's they're they're on and they're on the cell phones the 77752222 um text messaging.
SPEAKER_03:So it's not even yeah, exactly. Holy god, we're showing our age. That's that's the that's that's the that's that's a skill to have when when you could when you could text message fast that way before before actual full like full keyboards. Yeah. But even even Jay is trying to convince herself because Mahondrick tells her she's a love killer, and she's like, I'm not a love killer, I'm a love saver. Right. Because she's but everybody's out to convince her that she's she ruins, she breaks every heart of of every guy. Right. And I and I think they know I think they know how much she likes Eric.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Because I think they've all seen it at this point. Um they all know how much she likes Eric, and I think they're just I think they overplay the fact that uh of how much she breaks somebody's heart.
SPEAKER_01:I agree, and I I think they again I would have loved one female writer on this.
SPEAKER_04:Right.
SPEAKER_01:Women do not do this to their friends and siblings. Like, I could not imagine going to one of my girlfriends. Well, you know how you shit on every other guy you've ever dated. Maybe this is gonna be exactly the same. Like, yeah, you know, you would be like, be careful, you want to take care of yourself, blah blah blah. Right, but you're not going like you're gonna destroy him.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it's it's all it's all very much. Um I I completely agree. So let's let's jump back into the end of the storyline a little bit. So Penelope loses her her her role as the caretaker of the birds. Or she's not even really the caretaker. I mean, she's the I don't know what her role was, but she was she was kind of watched over.
SPEAKER_01:She was like the bird keeper. The bird keeper, the avian, the avian attendant.
SPEAKER_03:Avian attendant, ooh. Second suitor. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Yes. What why am I suitor number two?
SPEAKER_03:Not a sidekick.
SPEAKER_01:Uh we just saw that again.
SPEAKER_03:Did you did you see this thing I sent you? Just random off the off the complete topic. Did you see? Did you see they're doing uh stand by me down in Red Bank?
SPEAKER_01:Yes.
SPEAKER_03:I sent you that on Instagram.
SPEAKER_01:December 5th. December 5th. Yeah, I think we could probably pull that off. He had mentioned it at some point, and I forget what the conversation was, but I'll talk to him.
SPEAKER_03:Is Jerry O'Connell, Corey Feldman, and uh Will Wheaton? And Will Wheaton.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, yeah. And now Rob's not afraid of celebrities anymore.
SPEAKER_03:So what happened?
SPEAKER_01:I broke him.
SPEAKER_03:Has he met so many that he's like it's just like desensitized? Is it like exposure therapy?
SPEAKER_01:I think he was well to a certain extent, yes. I think he was so afraid of like doing it that he jumped in the picture, the pretty in pink picture with me. Um, and then I convinced him to try with the wrestler the next day. Did I send you that one?
SPEAKER_03:I don't know. I don't remember if he sent me that one or not.
SPEAKER_01:He's wearing full face makeup. I feel like you would have remembered it. I'll send it to you.
SPEAKER_03:Rob was or the the wrestler?
SPEAKER_01:No, the wrestler.
SPEAKER_03:Oh no, no, you did. You did send me that one.
SPEAKER_01:Yes, sting, because the whole thing was me wanting to sing Roxanne and ask him where the rest of the police were.
SPEAKER_03:And I'm like, wait, I would have remembered if Rob was in full face makeup. That I would have remembered.
SPEAKER_01:No, so um, and after he did that one, he was so excited. I think he's finally like, and he talked to John Cryer with me, he talked to Simon Pegg with me. I think maybe it is exposure therapy. Right. No, I think it was just seeing that like it's not a scary thing.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I still I still get starstruck. I'm like, right?
SPEAKER_01:Oh my god. My face after after meeting Andrew McCarthy and John Cryer, I was so excited.
SPEAKER_03:I bet.
SPEAKER_01:Yes. I'm I'm actually like upstairs in the extra bedroom. I think over the bed, I'm gonna do a whole pretty and pink thing. Because he got me that like light up um with the cells from the movie. Yeah, yeah. So I'm gonna do that in the middle and then like picture autographed picture. Like I'm gonna do a whole pretty and pink thing.
SPEAKER_03:Very nice. I like that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. So uh no, that was a fantastic weekend, and I'm really glad we went.
SPEAKER_03:That's great. I'm I'm very happy for you.
SPEAKER_01:You would like that convention. Just if you go, if you decide to go, don't yeah, just don't tell me you're going because then he won't want to go.
SPEAKER_03:I think I think AwesomeCon is on the table for this year. Nice. Well, all well, already they've got Alan Tudic and um Parker Posey.
SPEAKER_01:What what what? Alan Tudic?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_03:Oh yeah. Oh he's there, he's there with some other with some other guy. There's some project they're working on, but he's gonna be there. Oh.
SPEAKER_01:What are you doing?
SPEAKER_03:Who's doing what?
SPEAKER_01:Somebody's at the gate. Somebody's at the gate. Is that what that I can hear?
SPEAKER_03:I can I can hear it.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, one of them's rattling the gate.
SPEAKER_03:Nice.
SPEAKER_01:Actually, I should take my earrings out because I think those are whacking the headphones.
SPEAKER_03:I can't hear it.
SPEAKER_01:No, okay. I'm gonna take them out anyway, just in case. But oh, where'd the strawberry go? Okay, that's weird.
SPEAKER_02:Jesus. Oh, Jesus.
SPEAKER_01:Jesus! Oh I don't know. I had the oh, there it is. They're the ones with the little strawberry, and it fell off, but I see it now. So let me just grab that. So then we can go back to the episode.
SPEAKER_03:But uh we've got we've gone far off, it's all right.
SPEAKER_01:What else is there? Did I show you my new piercing?
SPEAKER_03:I saw a picture of it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, the one uh Raiden posted?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, very nice.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I like that. It hurts. Still? Um, it depends. If it gets bumped or whatever, it still hurts.
SPEAKER_03:Okay.
SPEAKER_01:If I lay on it um at night and then like I wake up in the morning and I'm like, oh, that hurts. So but it's not as bad as it had been. No, they apparently take like they're not considered fully healed for like a full year.
SPEAKER_03:So oh wow, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:The cartilage piercings take a while.
SPEAKER_03:Yikes.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I know. Probably should have researched that before I did it, but I wanted it, so I would have still done it anyway. So whatever.
SPEAKER_03:There you go.
SPEAKER_01:All right.
SPEAKER_03:All right, so and okay, and go. So yeah, so back to the back to the back to the episode.
SPEAKER_01:Well, I mean, nobody's gonna hear that part, so we can just say, hey, we went off on a tangent and now we're back.
SPEAKER_03:All right, cut to tangent over. That one, that at least that tangent's over. So we were talking about we're talking about the episode. So we talked about Penelope lost, she was the avian attendant. Uh right.
SPEAKER_01:Avian attendant.
SPEAKER_03:The avian avian attendant um lost those privileges. However, she's still so concerned about them mating because they are endangered. So she employs, she gets Eric and Jay to help her sneak into the zoo.
SPEAKER_01:Well, Eric doesn't know what he's doing, he thinks he's on a romantic date to the zoo after hours. But what he's actually doing.
SPEAKER_03:When else do you go to the zoo for a romantic date? After hours. Um, yeah, he's committing a felony. Um, which which which I think every good relationship should go through uh at some point.
SPEAKER_01:Um Is that why we got divorced? We never committed a felony.
SPEAKER_03:He never committed a felony. Um I'm sorry to say. But so yes, they they so they're on a quest to break the macaws, the hyacinth macaws, out of out of the zoo in a giant trash can. As you do, as you do, to to bring them somewhere where they can safely mate.
SPEAKER_01:Right.
SPEAKER_03:And where do they end up?
SPEAKER_01:Jay's parents' house.
SPEAKER_03:Yes, because Jay's parents are on vacation or something.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, where Aaron is in charge, despite the fact that he and all his siblings are adults.
SPEAKER_03:Yes. I don't know. And he's not wearing pants.
SPEAKER_01:Right. He's not wearing pants. He was just about to get some.
SPEAKER_03:And Mahondra says you're undressed for it.
SPEAKER_01:It was a nice that was a nice little double entendre where he meant he was going to get some pants, but really it sounded like he was gonna get some.
SPEAKER_03:Yes.
SPEAKER_01:Again, an episode written by four men.
SPEAKER_03:I I know. There's so much. So okay, so again, there's so many so so many confusing subplots to this. But anyway, they finally because Sharon shows up, um, and the birds, because Jay lets the birds out. Right. Because again, I again I guess what what was the whole reasoning for that? I'm trying to I'm trying to even remember why. She accidentally left a window open. I no, she I thought she purposely opened the window.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, because I didn't think it was intentional.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, because the whole thing was was if they if they mated and that whole thing was settled, then she had to like confront her issues with Eric. Oh so it was it was her avoidance of having to deal with with Eric and and and the relationship. That's that's what was happening. She's like, oh, the window got accidentally like was accidentally left open. No, it was it was a whole thing. It's her avoidance of oh, I lost your video.
SPEAKER_01:Hold on, yeah. I just hit low batteries, so let me uh oh, I think I can actually hold on.
SPEAKER_00:Sorry.
SPEAKER_01:All right, let's see if I can do it this way.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, I'll just hold it.
unknown:Sure.
SPEAKER_03:Sure about that? Okay. So yeah, so so it was not accidental. It was it was Jay's fear of dealing with with confronting the issue with Eric. Right.
SPEAKER_01:Okay. Well, that makes more sense, sort of. Yeah. Let me see if I can.
SPEAKER_03:So then they all go that's a good angle. That's a great angle. That was terrible. Okay. Um so the the birds are on the loose, but their wings are clipped, so they can't be that far. It's like everything is ever so convenient.
SPEAKER_01:Um so convenient for plot non-development.
SPEAKER_03:I know. It's like, like, seriously, it's like, I don't, I don't know. This this episode was really not one of my favorites. Um, mine either. So they're all on the hunt. And again, Jay doesn't want to go. Jay's like, she's like, oh, we have to split up. And and again, another another allusion to them, Eric and her having to break up, but she's talking about them all splitting up to find the birds, and then Mahandra fakes, I don't know if she she fakes some issue, and she's like, Oh, you two go together. And so then Eric and Jay are out out hunting for the bird. Um, and that whole thing, then that's when I think they they finally have their confrontation up in the tree, or or they're yes, are they making out in the tree?
SPEAKER_01:Yes, initially, yes.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, and then they finally have the big conversation. Oh god, yes.
unknown:God.
SPEAKER_03:And just and well, I'll go back to that later because that was that was a favorite, one of my favorite lines about the um when they when they when they wheel in uh the garbage can into the house and and Aaron realizes that they have the birds, and he's like, Did the cow creamer tell you to do this? She's like, No, the stuff Donkey did.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I had like I didn't think I was gonna have favorite lines from this, but I totally did.
SPEAKER_03:That was about all that this episode was good for. A couple one-liners.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, like I yeah.
SPEAKER_03:It was like it was just it just it was like an episode to build conflict, but then they just it was a lot of filler, I think.
SPEAKER_02:Because I'm like, I'm I'm wondering if they're even a way to bring in Heidi.
SPEAKER_03:Right, I know. It's like, oh, you brought in Heidi. Like, is is the Aaron Mahondra thing gonna pay off? Like, like what's gonna what's gonna happen with Sharon and her girlfriend, and what's I can never remember his name, the oh the delivery guy.
SPEAKER_01:What is his I can't remember his actual name, but also what was he was poor. Thomas? Yeah, it is Thomas, and then it was like poor something. Like yeah, I forget. Um anyway, yeah.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:So yeah, I think so.
SPEAKER_04:Yes.
SPEAKER_01:Sorry. Main plot birds romance, right? Secondary plots, Sharon and her girlfriend, right? Aaron and Mahandra.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, random.
SPEAKER_01:And I guess Penelope and the guy from the zoo, Rufus. Yes, or possibly Penelope and an elephant. Who the hell knows? I mean, their couple name could be Penelephant, so Penelephant, interesting.
SPEAKER_03:I like that.
SPEAKER_01:I was just saying, I just came up with that too. That was impressive.
SPEAKER_03:That was that's impressive. Off the cuff, very impressive. Yeah, um, Penelephant.
SPEAKER_01:You heard it here first, yes. Um yeah, so uh there's just I just wanted to clarify that because I feel like there was so much random stuff going on in this episode. Like, I don't think you needed the subplots, it was so much going on in the primary plot.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, they they they really I think they could have spent more time on the primary main plot line and uh and told a really great story, but it's like they had to like throw in, it was just like I said, it was like everything in the kitchen sink in this episode, yeah. It was messy.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Because like I didn't I didn't enjoy the episode.
SPEAKER_01:No, I didn't either.
SPEAKER_03:I I didn't like I I could have taken the first I could have taken like the first couple minutes of of them having their relationship, like the middle where they had their little conflict, and the end where Heidi shows up and and that would have been like that was it. Like the rest of it, yeah, throw it in the trash.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, you didn't need any of it.
SPEAKER_03:Um yeah, so that that's that's my opinion.
SPEAKER_01:Well, okay, I can get to that when we get to what worked and what didn't. Well, let's do well. You want to do favorite moments first?
SPEAKER_03:Let's do favorite moments because there's like I said, there was a lot of great, a lot of great one-liners, and and and that's about all this episode was worth. So let's let's do them.
SPEAKER_01:Okay. So for me, it was uh Penelope when she does the whole pheromone thing with Aaron. Yes, just Aaron going, she's sniffing me. And I was like, I mean, uh-huh. Kind of understandable your leap pace.
SPEAKER_04:Yes, hubba hub.
SPEAKER_01:Um, and then another one-liner that I I actually really enjoyed was when um Penelope and Sharon are in the woods looking for the birds, and Sharon like leaves, and Penelope yells, Blonde Woman, because she doesn't know her name. Yes. And she's trying to get her back. So she just calls her blonde woman. Yes, of course. And that made me laugh. And then at the end, when the birds end up mating in Sharon's Car, so she lets the zoo keep it until they're done with it. And she says she wants the leather cleaned, and Penelope says that's dead flesh, and she says, I want my dead flesh cleaned. Yes. I loved that. I was like, that is horrifying, but so funny.
SPEAKER_04:Yes, absolutely.
SPEAKER_01:So those were my three. What do you got? Did you run her up? Was uh that it was patchouli.
SPEAKER_03:Very strong female female musk scent in this in this car. It's patchouli. What? What? Um and yeah, my mine, some of mine were about again, Sharon going, remember Yuri the Exchange student from Prague? He still writes to me. Um and Sharon's, thank you for letting me be a thank you for letting me be a rest stop on your road to heterosexual bliss. Um again, which was another one of mine.
SPEAKER_01:Um Sharon had good work uh had good one-liners this episode because I had another one in there that was um when Jay tells her that they're looking for babies, and she comes running in.
SPEAKER_02:They're looking for babies instead of birds. And Sharon goes, Well, I can think of another B word because she's so pissed at chat.
SPEAKER_04:Yes.
SPEAKER_03:She's good, she again, she they they get they give her some good, they give her some good lines.
SPEAKER_01:And she delivers them well.
SPEAKER_03:Yes, she does. She's got she's got very good um, I guess comedic timing. She's just she's just very good, um, very good line delivery, which is great. So talk to me about so okay, so that was that was some some very funny. I will I also enjoyed the again, it was just a weird throw-in. The the peanut butter, the peanut butter fight.
SPEAKER_01:Yes, yeah, the peanut butter, chunky or smooth chunky. Of course you'd like chunky. And I mean, obviously the whole peanut butter thing was that Thomas is allergic to peanuts, so she wouldn't have had peanut butter in the house.
SPEAKER_03:It was like something about like go back to your chunky heterosexual husband or something like that.
SPEAKER_01:And I think I think she probably slept with Thomas. I think that's the direction they're leading us. That's what she was trying to tell Sharon at the end. So, I mean, that's gonna be a whole dramatic thing, too. And it's like I I know that that's why there were so many relationship but a lot of their relationship building stuff is so heavy-handed in this.
SPEAKER_03:I agree.
SPEAKER_01:Like, I have a note in there, and this is part of what um I have in my what worked, what didn't work, as what didn't work. Um, when Jay says that human interaction is scary, and she's like talking to Penelope about why Penelope relates better to animals. Yeah. Um, and then she suddenly is like, wait a second, what am I doing?
SPEAKER_02:Like, oh, really? Like that's what it took.
SPEAKER_03:The more you know.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I was just like, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:And now we knowing is half the battle. Yes, very heavy-handed.
SPEAKER_01:Heavy-handed.
SPEAKER_03:Um, and like I said, the other, like I said, I already mentioned the thing that didn't one of the things that didn't work for me was the whole flash photography thing.
SPEAKER_01:Like their flashes are going off, and it just uh I have in there um the toenail clipping. No, we never need toenail clipping on anything ever.
SPEAKER_03:And I'm trying to think about I was trying to figure out when Lee Pace actually put pants on. Right, because at some point he does have pants. Right, because like the next scene they cut to with him in it, he's wearing pants. Right. So I'm I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, who happened? Where where did he go? Um so at some point Aaron gets pants. Um Right, right. But other than that, I mean like I said, it was it was this episode. I would I would I would have to give a thumbs down. Um for sure.
SPEAKER_01:We want one big thumbs down.
SPEAKER_03:Um yeah.
SPEAKER_01:This is a for sure thumbs down.
SPEAKER_03:Absolutely. Um very just messy, disappointing. Um like I Skelly came to say hello. Hello, Skelly. On her on her way to dry food. Um but yeah, I I I feel like it was they had written like the first first half of the season. And we're we're well into oh, just over half of the season. Um, but I feel like they had to get to another point. Like they knew they knew where the where the season was going. Like they they were here, they were here, they knew where they wanted to get to, and they're like, what do we cram in the middle to get us from point A to point B? Um how can we force this to happen? Exactly. How do how do we cover they're like, we want this to happen, this to happen, this to happen, and this to happen. How do we make it all happen? Well, let's just throw it all into one episode. Oh, let's make it an episode about relationships. It's like we've got 13 episodes and we've got like 15 episodes worth of writing, so let's just throw it all into one and and and and see what comes out the other end.
SPEAKER_01:Um I can tell you what came out the other end. It's what ended up on Penelope. Oh, yeah. Shit.
SPEAKER_03:Exactly. Um, this episode was shit.
SPEAKER_01:Um this episode was bad, unfortunately. I was wondering, so obviously, we watched it when we were gonna review when we were gonna talk about it the first time. Yes, and I what we both wanted to watch it again because it's been like what three, four weeks, something like that. Yep, it's been a while. It has been a while, and I was dreading re-watching it because I disliked it so much the first two times I watched it.
SPEAKER_03:Agreed. I know I was I was not looking forward to it, and I was just like, okay, I just I need a refresher, but I I really don't want it.
SPEAKER_01:Honestly, I have to go back and like look again at how I rated all the other episodes, but I don't know where I'm gonna like net out on whether I think this should have gotten another season because the first season is just so uneven.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I think it was I want to say the first few episodes were kind of flat. Um yeah, then then they got into a a nice good rhythm. Um and now and now it's kind of now it now it flopped after this one. I think. Yeah. And I think it's there's they're still trying to find their legs.
SPEAKER_01:Um well, we've only got four episodes left for that, right?
SPEAKER_03:Right. I'm very curious to see how it's going to how season not season one, but how this season is going to end. Because um there's there's some things I'd like to see pay off, and I hope they do. Um not necessarily like like all the relationships. Now I want to see obviously you want to see where Jay and Arik end up. Um right. And that's the whole point of this show. Not the point of the show, but I guess kind of one of the main plot lines to the season. Um but now like Mahandra and Aaron, like what's gonna happen there. I'm I'm more interested in Sharon's relationship.
SPEAKER_01:I was gonna say the same thing because the Mahondra and Aaron thing seems really just like shoehorned in there.
SPEAKER_03:I feel like they they just had to make something happen. Like they they felt like something had to happen, so they're like, let's put these two together and see what happens.
SPEAKER_01:These are two attractive people, they'd be attracted to each other.
SPEAKER_03:Right. It was very um the whole and Laura and I were talking about this because she's the whole thing about um uh Mahandra saying something about she's she's like looking looking at all the brothers, and and then Aaron goes, I'm somebody's brother. And it's like, oh give me a fucking break. It was it was it was awful, it was awful writing, and it was it was so terrible. It was just like, are you fucking kidding me? Sorry, not over three men and a baby. Here's four men in a mediocre script. This was it was just like it was so terrible. Like, really, are we gonna go here? Like, I know this episode already had enough. We did not need another, like they they were just throwing everybody into a relationship, and it was just it was like I like I get your point. Like, I know this this was an episode about relationships from the birds to Penelope and Rufus and and everybody in between. Um what I what I what I really would have loved was to see um Darren and what's the mom's name? Karen? Karen. I would have loved to see like Darren and Karen like talk about their relationship. Like that would have been that would have been a better writing than trying to create new relationships.
SPEAKER_01:But I was gonna say the focus really should have been on the Jay Eric relationship. Yes. That's like they've been building toward that from episode one, right? Like, pay attention to it, you don't need to get everybody else fucking up.
SPEAKER_03:Right. I agree. So I agree. Yeah. So this one again from us thumbs down.
SPEAKER_01:Two thumbs down.
SPEAKER_03:Two thumbs down. Um so that that's our thoughts on this episode. So, you know, just just to just to wrap it up here, again, overall this the season, the season probably has a mildly positive thumbs up from somewhere from medium above. I'm like 60-70 positive at this point. Um this episode really pulled it down because we were I felt like we were on a good a good track.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, we'd had a number of like, oh, I liked this one kind of episodes, and then um yeah, although I had my issues with the last one, but the kid was funny, so at least there was that.
SPEAKER_03:Exactly. Cousin Oliver.
SPEAKER_01:Um now every time I see I see Abigail Breslin, I think of Wonder Falls, which is a weird connection to be making, but you know.
SPEAKER_03:So we'll we'll see. We've got what that was nine, 10, 11, 12, 30. Yeah, so we've got four more episodes like you, like you said, four episodes left. We'll we'll see where it goes from here. Hopefully, hopefully they kind of clean it up for the end here and and and and get get back on track. But um, we'll have to find out on our on the next episode of Seeking Season 2. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you, Catherine, for joining me remotely. That was I I appreciate that.
SPEAKER_01:Thank you for letting me so I can get stuff done around the house.
SPEAKER_03:I was just saying, I know you I know you got a lot to do, so I appreciate you you know doing this remotely, not not coming out here to the hinterlands of of of northwestern New Jersey.
SPEAKER_01:Uh you're the one who decided to go very far away.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah, that that was me. Um it's very windy today. Is it very windy there?
SPEAKER_01:It is it's windy, but it's not like terrible. Oh, as like I'm looking outside and everything is blowing. Yeah, it's windy, but it's not like no, it's not very windy.
SPEAKER_03:And I look outside and it's like is there a witch on a broom like flying by? Oh no, she was, I'm sorry. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Right. Stop sign hitting somebody in the head.
SPEAKER_01:No, not very windy at all.
SPEAKER_03:No, no, no.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, it's a little windy, but it's not awful.
SPEAKER_03:It is howling up here.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, yeah, it's not like that.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:But it's it's definitely it's definitely breezy.
SPEAKER_03:Nice. All right.
SPEAKER_01:It's warm though, so that's good.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it's well, it's supposed to get colder throughout the day, and then oh, really?
SPEAKER_01:Because it was like 60 when I went out this morning.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it was nice this morning, but it's it's it's the temperature's gonna drop throughout the day. Um gross. Like tomorrow morning, like the the feels like up here is gonna be like 25. Yeah, it's gonna be 35, but with the wind, with the wind, it's gonna feel like 25. Ugh.
SPEAKER_01:Well, at least I don't have anywhere to go tomorrow morning, so that's good. Good for you. I had to Ryan's taking time off uh the physical therapist, so I'm not going until noon because Sophie doesn't do 7 a.m. on Monday.
SPEAKER_03:Good for Sophie.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, good for Sophie, right?
SPEAKER_03:Smart Sophie.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:All right. Anyway. Well, again, everyone, thank you for listening to us talk about episode nine here. We we appreciate you. Um again, share, share it out. You know, let let other people know about seeking season two and continue to follow us on the show.
SPEAKER_01:Tell us what show. We we gotta start thinking about the next show. So tell us what show you want us to cover next.
SPEAKER_03:You can you can comment and and and tell us what you'd like to see next. We'd we'd love to get some ideas. Don't say firefly because we're not gonna do it.
SPEAKER_01:Um, no, it's the it's too obvious. And so many other podcasts have covered now.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:And I can tell you right now, it gets a thumbs up. It's one of my favorite shows.
SPEAKER_03:Right. Without a doubt, without a doubt, I would love to see more Firefly.
SPEAKER_01:So I'd rather see something else that we either haven't seen ever or haven't seen in a long time, where we could like, you know, look at it with fresh eyes.
SPEAKER_03:You know what my you know what my vote's for? Or do you? I don't think I do. That that random obscure TV show called Townies.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, yeah, that's right. I saw some article about that. Is that where it popped into your lips?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah, there was there was something there was something I saw and I don't know, I don't know if it was on Reddit or or where I saw it, but somebody was talking about that show.
SPEAKER_00:I mean I'm up for it.
SPEAKER_03:Like with when you when you look at the cast of it, I mean that that was the mo that was supposed to be the Molly Ringwald, like um, like big she was supposed to be like the big draw on on that show, but it had Jenna Elfman, Molly Ringwald, um what's her name? Lauren Graham, the one from uh Gilmore Girls. From Gilmore Girls. Um who else did it have? Like the actors were like were like really good as well. Um this was like again, like early, this was the one channel's answer to friends. I'm looking it up, hold on. Excellent.
SPEAKER_01:Townies.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, townies. But it was it was it was some channel's answer to friends. Because it was it was in that same like midnight like early mid nineties um kind of time frame. What do you got?
SPEAKER_01:I don't know, my I gotta what I gotta write now is a slow computer and I oh now it's making me do a capture. To read about townies. I pissed it off. Uh okay.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, Ron Livingston? Here it is. Okay, so we Oh and Bill it was Bill Burr before he was Bill Burr.
unknown:Yep.
SPEAKER_01:He was like Willie, he was like William or Billy Burr or something on this show. Yeah, Lauren Graham, Bill Burr, Ron Livingston. Yeah. Interesting. Yeah, I mean I would definitely check it out. Credited as Billy Burr. Yeah, Billy Burr. Oh it has concetta Farrell. Jeff Du Set, whose name I recognize, and I'm pretty sure if I click on this, I'll know who he is. Yeah, go ahead. I want to look at a picture of Jeff Du Set now because I'm like, I know that name. Let's see who he is. Why is my computer so slow?
SPEAKER_03:This was like Bill Burr with hair.
SPEAKER_00:Oh wow.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. So that that's that's one of my votes. I'm not I'm not saying it has to be this one, but I'm fascinated because it it was it looked like it was ABC. So it was ABC's answer to friends. Um and it it clear it clearly clearly didn't didn't take. So obviously. Obviously. So I'm I'm wondering if it was, and I'm curious, I'd have to do some more research, deep dive into like who the writers were, um on this show and things like that to see why. I mean, because obviously from the cast, you would think you know it's it's got a a pretty decent shot at at being noticed. Because I this may have been was it, I think I guess this was Jen Alfman prior to Dharma and Greg.
SPEAKER_01:Um uh yeah, I don't know how long ago it was.
SPEAKER_03:So, I mean not to get too deep into this, but I mean I think this was like before a lot of these people were kind of um more than I'm also looking at, and I know we talked about this 1600 pen.
SPEAKER_02:Oh yeah. And you know why I'm excited about that.
SPEAKER_03:Tell me.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, because it was created by John Lovett.
SPEAKER_03:Is that seriously?
SPEAKER_01:Oh yeah. Why do I not remember that? Oh god, yeah, it was after the Obama presidency. Okay, and Lovett wanted to be, you know, a TV writer. He came up with this concept for 1600 pen. It had again Jenna Elfman, right, Bill Pullman, Josh Gadd.
SPEAKER_03:Josh Gad.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. And uh they said Gad, along with Jason Weiner and John Lovett, created the central characters. Um, Lovett was talking about it actually on Love It or Leave It this weekend.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01:Where he said his whole concept was that the um the first lady was supposed to be an alcoholic who was cheating on the president, but the network didn't like that. And they said they were like, What if she's a career woman who has it all? And he was or who wants to have it all, and he was like, That's not gonna be as funny. And they were like, Well, then it's not gonna get me.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, you're not gonna be you know, we're not gonna do it, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Right. So uh, but that's another one that only got one season. I've never watched it, but I love John Lovett.
SPEAKER_03:So and Robbie, I see Robbie Amel is in there somewhere.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, yeah. I mean, got 13 episodes, might be worth looking at. Yeah, we had it on the list. I thought you would added it to the list.
SPEAKER_03:I I don't recall it being on the list.
SPEAKER_01:Huh.
SPEAKER_03:We'll need to add that to the list. It's fascinating. Some of the people that show up on this show, though. Rene Abba Janois, Bruce Campbell, Stacey Keach. Yeah. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01:I mean, it just goes to show that it doesn't matter how the podcast is if you're right.
SPEAKER_03:Henry Winkler is a senator.
SPEAKER_01:I mean, yeah, so it's funny because Henry Winkler was on Love It or Leave It this weekend, which is how they ended up talking about this.
SPEAKER_02:Because when Love It introduced him, he introduced him as Henry Winkler from 1600 Pen.
SPEAKER_01:Like who you know from 1600. Of course, but of course, obviously, not the Fonz. No, he just published his 40th. Children's book, Henry Winfrey.
SPEAKER_03:40th? Wow. 40th. Good for him. He just turned 80. Man, God bless him. Right? I never I never finished Barry. I gotta I gotta finish that show. Oh god, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, and we have a whole new um season. Have you watched Slow Horses?
SPEAKER_03:I watched the first episode, I think.
SPEAKER_01:I gotta watch it.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. I tried reading the book.
SPEAKER_01:I'm sure he'd like it.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. I tried reading the book and I could not get into it.
SPEAKER_01:Really?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I feel like Gary Oldman is a lot of what makes that show as special as it is.
SPEAKER_03:Did you see? Um, since we're since we're on a bunch of random tangents, did you see did you see his interview with Stephen Colbert when Stephen Colbert kept putting fart noises into other characters by Gary Oldman?
SPEAKER_01:Yes.
SPEAKER_03:Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01:That was Gary Oldman. Loved it. Oh, he did.
SPEAKER_03:He thought it was hysterical.
SPEAKER_01:It was so funny.
SPEAKER_03:So funny. He's like, he's like, this is amazing. I love Gary Oldman.
SPEAKER_01:Gary Oldman is so cool.
