A talking pig on a Jamaican bacon commercial keeps repeating “Mend what was broken,” and Jaye’s first response is pure panic. We’re back with our Wonderfalls rewatch podcast recap of Episode 10, “Lying Pig,” where the muses stop being quirky background noise and start feeling like a force that will not take no for an answer.
We dig into the central love triangle between Jaye, Eric, and Heidi as Heidi returns and the show leans hard into misdirection, selective amnesia, and that very Wonderfalls brand of magical realism. We also talk honestly about the uneven parts: performance choices that don’t land, plot logic that asks you to suspend a lot of disbelief, and why the writing sometimes feels like it’s racing to cram an arc into too little time.
Then we give flowers to what truly shines: the family comedy. Darren, Karen, and Sharon turn a simple dinner into a full-on farce, complete with spying, jealousy, and one perfectly timed physical gag. We also unpack Mahandra and Aaron’s morning-after freakout and how it changes the emotional map of the season heading into the final stretch.

You all ready? I think so. Let's do this. Welcome. I always say what I gotta try something new. Ahoy, ahoy.
SPEAKER_01Salutations.
SPEAKER_03Welcome back to another episode of Seeking Season Two. This is our season one, which is also the one season of Wonder Falls. I am your host, Andrew, and my co-host Catherine. Hello, Catherine. Hello. Hello. We're gonna try to do another two episodes tonight. Let's see. Let's see how this goes if it goes off the rails yet again, uh, like it did last time.
SPEAKER_01It feels like it's going to, but I have a feeling the last one they listened to went off the rails, but we've recorded one in between.
SPEAKER_03We've recorded one in between, yes. Well no, we didn't do the one we never we never published the one that went off the rails. Oh, no, no, because we re-recorded.
SPEAKER_01We did the re-record of the one that went off the rails. No, please don't. No one that went off the rails.
SPEAKER_03The one that went off the rails, I have not published. I'm saying the re-record. Oh, okay. The re-record, I did not. I did, I did not, I have not published the re-record yet. So excellent. Yes. So as I said, we are covering this season of Seeking Season 2. We are covering the show Wonderfalls. Uh 13 episodes. Yep. Or sods. If if you'd like to be like believe they brought that back. I know. That was amazing. That was a great callback. Um, anyway, so we are on episode 10 today. Lying pig. Yep. Now here's the thing. So there was no lying pig. Was was the lying pig the one that rolled under the the seat in the car?
SPEAKER_01No, I thought the lying pig was the one on the TV that she chucked out the window.
SPEAKER_03Oh, the Jamaican bacon. Yes. The Jamaican I forgot. That's right. The Jamaican bacon. Yes. Is the lying pig. Yes. That's right. That's right. That's right. Okay. So now you got the pig. Yes. But why was the I I guess because he was lying down? Is that why he was the lying pig? I I I honestly have no idea. I know. I don't I don't get the reference, but I'll take their word for it. But Jamaican bacon. Jamaican bacon. Jamaican bacon. Alright, so you want to dive into, let's dive into some of the intro. I'll I'll go over this if you like. Um so episode, yes, episode title was Lying Pig. And we'll get to that later. Um, while the cats play with their toys. Frank Franklin's going crazy. Anyway, uh director directed by Peter O'Fallon. Writers Krista Vernhoff and Abby Gewanter. I can I can never Gawanter. I don't know how to I don't know how you pronounce the name. So I forgive me, Abby, for m mispronouncing potentially your your last name. However, I do think what? Yes. What?
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_03Okay, you had a you had like a like a wheeler message.
SPEAKER_01I said I do think, and I was like, what do you think? What do you think?
SPEAKER_03What do you think? What kind of craziness is about to come out of your mouth? Um it's always an adventure. It is. No, so I think so. Here's this is like like a three-episode. This was like really ends up being like a three-episode arc.
SPEAKER_01So like at the beginning of the last episode, into this episode, and then through the episode 11. Right. Got it.
SPEAKER_03And it's really this really, this really it's really the whole second half. Oh, that was this the last third of the season. Yeah. It's kind of this whole story arc going on about uh Eric and Heidi Ho. They really leave. I wish I had said that.
SPEAKER_01Alright. She calls it back too.
SPEAKER_03I know, it's great. Heidi, Heidi Ho. Um, so anyway, I think I think the writing was much better on this episode than the last one. I feel like they try to like cram so much in the last episode to get to this point.
SPEAKER_01I definitely enjoyed this one more. Yeah, I actually liked this episode.
SPEAKER_03Foreshadowing, I did not like the next episode.
SPEAKER_01I didn't hate it. It was entertaining. Was it? I felt like it was better than some of the others. I all I can say about Wonderfalls, and this may give away where I'm probably gonna land on this show in general, is that I dread watching these episodes.
SPEAKER_03So it's so the writing is so uneven. It it's yeah. I thought they were gonna find their footing, but no, but they never did. They never did, they never really did.
SPEAKER_01They never really did.
SPEAKER_03So sad, sad statement. I wanted to like this show so much. Yeah, same. Yeah, I I really did. I'm I'm a I'm I'm uh somewhat of a Brian Floor fan. I wouldn't say I'm like a big fan, but I like No, but you loved um I loved pushing daisies, exactly. I mean, and he did he did work on Star Trek, so I mean, how can how can that be wrong?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03Um that's wrong, I don't want to be right. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of Star Trek, yes, is that the Lego that you bought last night?
SPEAKER_03Yes, after telling me how tight money is the other day. Here's the thing. Here's the I no, no, money it might believe me, I get that. But listen, that that that is a set that is gonna sell out and never be available again. Yeah, I don't care.
SPEAKER_01You're a big boy, you do what you want with your money. Oh.
SPEAKER_03To sell one on eBay. Smart. Yeah, yeah. Already this morning, they were sold out, they were sold out by the time I got back up. Yeah, I literally set an alarm for 11:55 p.m. to to wake up because they went on sale at midnight. Yeah, so I I got up. Are they they were already sold out? No, they were in a virtual, I was in a virtual queue. Oh so I got in at about like 12.01, 1202 a.m.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I was able to buy them, um, went back to bed by the time I got up in the morning, gone. Yeah, absolutely gone. And they were already up on eBay for like$200 more than what they were selling for on Legos.
SPEAKER_01I just paid$12 to get a Twilight Zone comic book for Rob. Nice. Yeah, well, the book itself was like five bucks and then shipping. I was like, I don't care, it's for Christmas. That's awesome. He wants it, he talks about it all the time. We drove past um Midtown Comics. I took him to the bus on Wednesday, right? And I was like, Oh, we should go in there, it's great. He's like, Oh, maybe they'll have my toilet zone comic book, and I'm like, I'm just gonna go home and buy it. Exactly. I know, I I've I've got a problem. Oh, now we've got multiple Daredevil comic books.
SPEAKER_03Any wonder why money's tight?
SPEAKER_01All the things that would not have been allowed if we were still married, so you know, because I would have put my foot down at some point. It's bad. Money's tight because I have four cats and they're fucking expensive.
SPEAKER_03Well, thank thank God we've I over I've been over-ordering on the cat food. I do the same thing. It's like 300 bucks a month.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. I'm sure you do. I'm sure you do. Same, same. And I just keep adding litter boxes to the bedroom downstairs, which Rob suggested I just make a litter box.
SPEAKER_03Turn it into a giant litter box. Litter all over the floor, just dig the concrete pad out underneath, just dig down six inches and just fill it.
SPEAKER_01Oh man.
SPEAKER_03Anyway, yes, let's moving on. Okay, moving on. So, yeah, so director Peter O'Fowen, the writers. Two ladies, two ladies and a and a man. No, no, just two ladies. Two ladies. Um, and a pizza place. Again, starring again Jewel State. Mm-hmm. Fantastic.
SPEAKER_01What do you have? What what's the state of Jewel State? Um she was not a very good actress at this point in her career.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_01The acting was woof.
SPEAKER_03Well, here's the thing. Is it the acting or the directing? Is it both? Is it the writing too? Is it the writing, the directing, and the acting? Like, yeah. And this was how how soon before So Firefly. Firefly was like 2004? And she was great in Firefly. And this was 2002. Or 2003.
SPEAKER_01Maybe she got much better in two years.
SPEAKER_03Maybe she used the money from this to go to acting school.
SPEAKER_01Actually, Firefly was 2002. 2002? So was Firefly actually before this? Was this stunt casting from Wonderfalls? Rutrow. Oh boy.
SPEAKER_03Then we know who to blame. It's Joss Whedon's fault. No, I'm saying that it's a directing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it has to be. I know what you're saying. Yeah. But everything's Joss Whedon's fault.
SPEAKER_03Blame it on Jos Whedon's.
SPEAKER_01Um, always safe. Um, yeah, I mean, it has to be the directing then because she was terrible. What was the little girly voice the whole time?
SPEAKER_03I know. Eric. I think what whatever whatever, whatever, whatever direction she was taking, it was it was not good.
SPEAKER_01I mean, because they kept trying to like, oh, Jay thinks this horrible thing's about to happen. And I a lot of this is from the next episode, so we'll get into it then. But like they kept painting like Jay thinks she's terrible, but she's actually not that terrible. Right. So then why was everything in this like tiny little baby voice and like she she was trying to be evil? I don't know. You're right, it was probably the directing.
SPEAKER_03They were they were they were trying to they were trying to do misdirection, and they did it badly, and they did it badly, yeah. So the miss it was misdirection on multiple levels. Um misdirection on multiple levels. It was misdirection and then misdirection.
SPEAKER_01Uh direction of a miss. Miss Mizsterious. It's a European cut. Always comes back to the office.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01Literally always.
SPEAKER_03So let's talk about the synopsis. So when Eric's estranged wife, Heidi, returns to Niagara Falls, Jay is instructed by the muses to quote, mend what was broken. Afraid of losing Eric, Jay turns to her brother for help and tries to ignore the muse's orders. In fact, she tries to get rid of anything that might turn into a muse. Fascinating. So yeah, she goes, she goes all out scorched earth on the on the muses.
SPEAKER_01Yes, seriously.
SPEAKER_03Which was which was pretty interesting. So let's let's break it down. Let's talk about the main so what the main plot was obviously the mend what was mend was yeah, so the kind of heidi the Heidi Eric J triangle.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03So that was kind of the main plot. Yeah, subplots were which would which was I thought was very funny. Um Darren and Karen. Darren and Karen. Um I guess they went to a convention and he he went off and was playing poker, I think was what she was saying. And wait, there was a teddy.
SPEAKER_01Uh one of my favorite moments um is him going up the stairs past Mahondra and Aaron. And they have it. This was actually a really good directing moment. Yeah. This moment where you think he's just realized that the two of them had sex, but he's actually processing the teddy. Right. There was a teddy? There was a teddy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she was wearing a teddy, a new teddy, and you completely missed it, Darren. Um, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_01So I felt like that was subplot one. Yes, and subplot two was Mahondra and Aaron. Yes. And Mahondra freaking out over having had sex with Aaron.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Like she was she's like vacillating between freaking out and like wanting more.
SPEAKER_01Like they obviously all of a sudden have a connection that obviously has been brewing forever, according to apparently. We're supposed to think this anyway.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So oops, sorry. No, you're good. Bonked that. Bonk. So let's jump into the main plot.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03Um, let's get into it. What so it really starts out again? Um, all so I I I kind of talk about all the different um muses. There's a ton of muses in this one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, this one was, and honestly, that snake on Eric's sweater, disturbing, right? Stop hissing at me. Yes, and moving around this that was fascinating. Yeah, interesting. See, like there were parts of this episode that were really interesting. They saved the CGI for this episode. Clearly, yeah, yeah. Yeah, the snake on the sweatshirt traveling around it, yeah, moved from the front to the back on the side, like very strange, and honestly, pretty decent CGI for early 2000s, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so you've got so the fish says, Mend what was broken. Jay throws a glass at the fish after after Eric has thrown a glass through a glass toward Heidi or at the wall behind Heidi. Yeah, not really at Heidi. He just threw a glass to make a point. Um, because Heidi said, you know, throw something, and yeah, he's like, okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Fair. Gonna invite it. Let's do this.
SPEAKER_03That really surprised Heidi. She was not, she was not expecting that. Like, and she said it in a girly little voice. You know what this reminds me of?
SPEAKER_01My dislike of what's in your wall. Exactly. My dislike of what is her last name? Jennifer Garner. Yeah, Jennifer Garner's voice, which is also a baby voice. As a woman with a deeper voice, there's something about baby voices that drives me insane. Can't help it. Worked with a lot of them, can get along with everyone fine. All good. But in my head, I'm thinking, why do you talk like that? If I sounded like this, I would go for classes to learn to talk deeper. Yes. Good lord. Yeah. So yes. So anyway, yeah. Um, the baby voice really drove me nuts.
SPEAKER_03Rant over.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, done with hostility for now.
SPEAKER_03That's right. And so then then the lion again says mend what was broken. Right. The Jamaican bacon commercial. So that's so so let's let's jump into that. So that that leads into so Jay sees the Jamaican bacon commercial, the bacon in the the lying pig in the Jamaican bacon commercial. I like saying Jamaican bacon. Yeah, clearly. As many times doing it. In the Jamaican bacon commercial, uh, it says mend what was broken. Yep. She throws a portable TV, a portable TV out the window.
SPEAKER_01Correct. Tiniest little TV I've ever seen. Right? Oh, and this was the point at which I became incredibly hostile about something else. Oh. The early aughts fashion was really on display in this one. Yeah. Mahandra had these super low-rise pants, so like her underwear was like two inches sticking out above the pants when she put them on. Yes. And then um Heidi was wearing the ugliest shoes I've ever seen. They were like, Yeah. Were they high-heeled Converse? They looked like, but they had like a spike heel, and I've never seen that before. I've seen like wedge Converse, but it was some kind of a sneaker adjacent thing with a with a three-inch heel, like a stiletto on it.
SPEAKER_03Interesting. Something from like the Spice Girls era?
SPEAKER_01Yes, and she was wearing like a like a Victoria's Secret sweatsuit. Yeah. It was horrible. Yeah. So sorry, but that was all good. Yeah. So Heidi came to the trailer park to confront Jay. Right. Because she has now realized that Jay is the thing that stands between her and Eric getting back together. Right. And then Jay sees the Jamaican bacon pig say, mend what was broken, and she's in the middle of trying to not get them back together because that is contrary to what she actually wants.
SPEAKER_03And had she already gotten rid of all the muses at this point?
SPEAKER_01I believe so, and that's why it was on the TV. That's why it was on the TV. Because Aaron had taken all the muses. Right. Or anything that could become a muse. Anything that was an animal face.
SPEAKER_03Anything with an animal face.
SPEAKER_01Um, he had taken out the picture, which is another one of my favorite things. I mean, it wasn't one of my like top moments, but it was one of my favorite things about the episode is Aaron trying to get the muses to talk to him.
SPEAKER_03Say habla español. Exactly. He's like that was that was one of my favorite modes. Just but he was just like, talk to me. Say something. Say habla español. I know. He's like trying anything. Anything to get them to talk to him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So funny. But yes, that's why the pig on the TV was talking to Jay because it was the only way for the muses to get to her. Right.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, so tosses the portable TV out the window. Yep. You hear the thud. Bonks Heidi on the head. She goes outside, there's Heidi unconscious. Yep.
SPEAKER_01On the ground in her ugly shoes.
SPEAKER_03Yes. So that that brings up the whole thing that she Jay takes her to the hospital. She's apparently has this, she she's got what appears to be amnesia at that moment.
SPEAKER_01What we might call selective amnesia.
SPEAKER_03Selective amnesia. It was almost like her short-term memory kind of like reset. Yep. Um so that yeah, that was that whole thing. Partial amnesia, no recall of cheating on Eric. Um, and then obviously later it was revealed that she was faking. Because when they're because she, as as you so keenly pointed out, she books the uh honeymoon suite for another two weeks.
SPEAKER_01Holy crap, that's the next episode. Oh, is it? Yeah, because he's like, we can stay in the honeymoon suite while he gives his two-week notice at no, no, she'd already booked it. No, no, they booked it for this episode.
SPEAKER_03But they don't say the two weeks notice. Right until the next episode, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because that's when I'm like, what the hell? How much money do these people have? He's living in the barrel. Yeah. So he clearly is not wealthy. No, but now we can stay in the honeymoon suite for two weeks. I love when TV is just like suspend suspend disbelief for a second here.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, totally. Like all the friends living in those apartments in New York City. I don't have the fucking money to spend on a honeymoon suite for two weeks. So, yeah. So, anyway, so that's when the the bellman sees that she had she had reserved the honeymoon suite again. Yeah, he thinks it's because she's coming back to see him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, to service him. Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_03Um, and then Jay sees the look of uh recognition on Heidi's Heidi Ho's face.
SPEAKER_01Well, she also slams the door in his face, so it's like very obvious.
SPEAKER_03She figures out that that Heidi Ho is faking. Yeah and and that all un unravels. Um so that was a lot. Yeah. Then what then what what happens after that? Refresh my memory.
SPEAKER_01Um I gotta go back through and um one of my favorite moments was when she says brain damage suits her.
SPEAKER_03Um, let's let's not for let's not forget the whole part of the sub. Well, we haven't gotten the subplots.
SPEAKER_01I was just gonna say, do you want to go to the subplots? Because I think that's pretty much the main plot. Yeah, that's pretty much the main plot. Oh, except for the part where then um Jay reveals that Heidi has been faking. Right. Heidi comes to the barrel, and this is another one that I wrote down in her negligent with a jacket over it. You just wandering around town in lingerie, okay.
SPEAKER_03Um, I well, I mean, the whole I guess the whole thing was because she was she was chasing Jay out the hotel room because she was that's what she was wearing. She came out of the bathroom. I listen, I don't know, I don't know what goes on in Niagara Falls. Oh my god. You know, this is this is she is she is a woman in love. Is she and people in love do stupid things? Okay, stupid people do stupid things. There you go. There you have it. Um, but anyway, yes, no, so I agree.
SPEAKER_01It was weird, but and then she basically says, Oh, well, marry me again, and they go to the all-night chapel. Maybe maybe it's to to keep her all in white. Yeah, probably from the perspective of the show, but it's still just like Oh, it's still lame. Who's running out into the street in lingerie? It all these things only happen on on TV shows and in movies, where like, oh, I've run into the middle of the street with just a towel around my waist. Right. Okay. Exactly. It's never gonna happen, but alright. Um, so yeah, the the episode ends with Jay essentially having to be the witness at Eric and Heidi's vow renewal. So now let's let's go to the subplot, which is one of my favorite, one of my favorite things of of all time.
SPEAKER_03Darren and Karen. Darren and Karen. So Darren and Karen, Dr. Fort was it, Dr. Foreman? I think is the other.
SPEAKER_01Isn't it like O'Fallon or something? It was something very obviously Irish.
SPEAKER_03Now I'm gonna have to look it up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I'm I'm sure it had an O in front of it. You sure it had an O? I'm sure it had an O. He's Irish. Has to be an O.
SPEAKER_03Where's Scully? She might be on the bed. One more thing about Wicked. The movie was good. No, I know, but it's just it's just like playing. It's everywhere.
SPEAKER_01I did enjoy um there was a very sweet final interview on the press tour with uh Oh my god, why does my brain not work anymore?
SPEAKER_03I think it's Dr. Frank Chambers. Chambers?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it's like reaching for glasses that I'm not wearing. I was like, There you go.
SPEAKER_03No, Dr. Dr. Frank Chambers, Mark Aiken.
SPEAKER_01Really? I swear they made it more Irish-y than that.
SPEAKER_03No, it wasn't. That's why. Like I remember being something like very non-irishy. Okay. Because then they all noticed that he had the accent, like he's European. That's right, yeah. So I mean there was all that.
SPEAKER_01Sharon gets all the oh, I'm thinking Peter O'Fallon who directed it. Ah sorry, my bad. There was an O something then.
SPEAKER_03There was an O something somewhere.
SPEAKER_01There was an O something. Yes. No, I'm just interested in the fact that the next episode was written by Brian Fuller and it was still kind of bad.
SPEAKER_03It was very Brian Fuller, though. It was it was it reminded me, it reminded me of some of the stuff of like pushing daisies. I guess, yeah. Where it got it got very weird, very dark. It was interesting. But anyway, so okay, so it all starts off with Karen at the hospital. Yep. She drops she drops her books, copies of her book.
SPEAKER_01Well, let's rewind a bit. Yes. There we go. The snake on Eric's sweatshirt tells her tells Jay to spit out her gum.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01And the reason Karen drops her books is because she had stepped in the gum and she's trying to clean it off her right shoe while also holding all the books.
SPEAKER_03Yes. So she drops the books.
SPEAKER_01So, like, obviously the point is this was meant to happen per the oops, sorry, I keep doing that.
SPEAKER_03Per the muses. Per the muses. Per the muses. So yeah. So the muses get set everything up. Dr. Chambers. Frank. Frank. Frank Chambers.
SPEAKER_01Um delightful Irish accent. Y'all love it. The Doctor Who is treating Heidi.
SPEAKER_03Doctor Who's Treating Heidi. Um, picks up one of the one of the copies of the book because he sees the author on the back of the book. Yeah. And and and is is gushing over the author. Yeah. As he's picking it up, not realizing that it's Karen who's standing there. Right. And then he's kind of like starstruck a little bit. He fanboys. He does. Um about about her. But then he talks about he being Irish, talks about her kind of criticism of Dublin, I believe it was.
SPEAKER_01It was, but she had her shoes thrown up on twice in two days. Yes, that'll happen. Exactly. That'll happen.
SPEAKER_03I mean, come on. So um, so the doctor, doctor offers to make it up to her by like taking her out to dinner, I think. Yes. And um obviously she's she's not gonna do it, but then she mentions it to Darren and Sharon. Right. And they're like, and Darren was like, You should go. I think I think it would be a good idea. He's new in town, you know, it'd be nice to, you know, nice to you know be welcoming, yada yada yada.
SPEAKER_01And he's a fan and he works with your husband and blah blah blah blah blah.
SPEAKER_03And she's like, well then, if you're gonna like basically like if you're gonna like say go ahead, she's like, I'm gonna do it.
SPEAKER_01And Sharon is of course horrified.
SPEAKER_03Yes, yes, and it's it's amazing. So the whole thing, the whole thing, why there's a whole lot to it. Time passes.
SPEAKER_01Um I was just gonna say exactly.
SPEAKER_03Nice, I like the sound effect. Thank you. Um so anyway, time passes, and uh Dr. Chambers and Karen are at the barrel having dinner.
SPEAKER_01Yep, because the barrel is the only place to go in all of Niagara Falls. Only place. The only one, the nicest place, the nicest, the only. When they said they had a reservation, I thought he was taking her somewhere fancy, and then they're at the barrel. The only place to eat in all of Niagara Falls. Correct. Eat, drink, congregate, right, hide out. It's the only restaurant with the bag belt. But then, but then in the next episode, Mahondra says that um they're laying people off left and right. I didn't know there were any employees other than Eric and Mahondra, so you know.
SPEAKER_03No, because remember when when Eric leaves, there is another bartender behind the bar.
SPEAKER_01Well, isn't that who's going to replace him?
SPEAKER_03No, no, no, not when he leaves. Like there's one scene when he walks out.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, he can't be there 24 hours a day. Right. Except that he lives there, so he is there 24 hours a day.
SPEAKER_02There's Mulder. If he'll let me.
SPEAKER_01Come here, buddy.
unknownHey!
SPEAKER_01Where are you? Where do you go? Mulder, where'd he go? I don't know where he went. He's gone. Mulder. What do you think is wrong with his tail?
SPEAKER_03It feels weird in one spot.
SPEAKER_01Might be like Linus, where Linus's tail was actually like broken a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. He might have gotten into it with Franklin.
SPEAKER_03Maybe.
SPEAKER_01Um I'll feel it if he'll come near me, but I don't know where he went.
SPEAKER_03But anyway, so yeah, so it all it all culminates in in a confrontation when Darren, Darren was like, wait a second.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03He could he kind of realizes what's going on. Well, but he and Sharon, no, he and Sharon are are spying.
SPEAKER_01Because Karen intentionally dresses super sexy. She's got, oh, I don't need the safety pin because I'll just go out with my bra strap showing. Bra strap will just snap the show. Sharon is killing herself to try to improve the situation. Yes. And it's great. I love Sharon. Now, Katie Finneran, a great actress. Yes. I what else has she been in? Because I love her on this show.
SPEAKER_03Okay, quick, quick side side quest.
SPEAKER_01Let's look.
SPEAKER_03Katie Finneran. Here she is.
SPEAKER_01Tony award-winning performances and noises off and promises promises. Oh, I like her even more. She's on the game.
SPEAKER_03She's on the blacklist. She was on some of the Gilded Age. Ooh. Six episodes of the Gilded Age.
SPEAKER_01Who is she on The Gilded Age?
SPEAKER_02Anne Morris? I will have to go back and look at that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03She was on Bloodline. 27 episodes of Bloodline. She was on the Michael J. Fox show. Interesting. In a bunch of different stuff.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, that is definitely her.
SPEAKER_03Interesting, and she apparently directed a podcast series. Interesting. Easy Money, the Charles Ponzi story.
SPEAKER_01Oh, she does like charity stuff with the ant on the Gilded Age. It's definitely her, though.
SPEAKER_03I didn't recognize her, but all I see is world premiere at the public. Oh, what the hell is this? An ad. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yes. That's her. That's her. Just older. Just 20 years older.
SPEAKER_03She's in her mid-50s, and she replaced Leah Thompson as Sally Bowles in the Broadway revival of cabaret.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, she's obviously like a pretty accomplished Broadway actress.
SPEAKER_03Fascinating.
SPEAKER_01Surprised you didn't know that. Right? Because, you know, we like Broadway. Kind of our jam.
SPEAKER_02I know. Wow. And her husband's name? Yes.
SPEAKER_03Darren. Nice. Just saying. Let me go to Since we're since we're going on this side quest. Since we're tangenting.
SPEAKER_02Uh let's see. I'm doing a search and I can't even performer.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god, Playbill is like heavily handing uh They're Black Friday sales.
SPEAKER_02This is uh my Christmas card for Rob. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01Right?
SPEAKER_02I love that.
SPEAKER_01We just saw it again. They uh showed it at some place in Rutherford. Nice. We found this really good burger place right up the street, had dinner at the burger place, and then went to the movies.
SPEAKER_03Oh she was in uh she was in the original cast of the Thanksgiving play.
SPEAKER_01Oh well then I saw her there too.
SPEAKER_03You saw that? Yeah. Oh that's right. I did with Jenny. That's right. Interesting. She's been in time.
SPEAKER_01So then I saw her because we went to the Thanksgiving play. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's funny.
SPEAKER_01That is funny.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. All right, back to back to life, back to reality.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so now we're at Sharon and Darren go to the barrel to spy on Karen and the doctor.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01And uh Darren gets really pissed off. Darren gets really pissed off. Decking him. Right. Uh, which is kind of amazing, honestly. Yes. A great moment for William Sadler.
SPEAKER_03Get your damn hands off her. Is basically what Darren Darren does. I love my my favorite part of the whole scene is he takes off the glasses and hands them to Sharon. Oh my god. Because he's he's afraid of getting punched in the face.
SPEAKER_01But I really wish they'd done more character development on the family earlier on, because I do think they're one of the best parts of this show.
SPEAKER_03I agree. If they had if they had focused more on the family, yeah, I think that I think they would have had a much better show than trying to develop all these other like other things. Um so agreed. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like if they'd spent a little less time on the character of the week and a little more time on the family every week, I think it would have helped balance this out a bit because for sure. Once they found their like legs on the who the characters were, the family becomes entertaining and fun and interesting and human. Um, whereas in the beginning they were just caricatures of people.
SPEAKER_03Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And like now that they've spent more time delving into, and I think some of this may have had to do with Lee Pace's schedule at the time, because I feel like you didn't get a lot of Aaron in the first few episodes, and then all of a sudden he came in and like I really found him hilarious when he was taking the muses. I'll take care of it. Like he's the big man, and I'm like, hmm.
SPEAKER_03Are those my pink flamingos? No. She's the pink flamingos, all of them.
SPEAKER_01So let's talk about some of our do you want to talk about the Mahandra and Aaron subplot first?
SPEAKER_03Sure, let's go for it.
SPEAKER_01So they wake up together in bed. She has to sneak out past his parents, not really sneaking, though, she just walks down the stairs ahead of him, right? Past the parents, and then she starts to freak out because they have this long history. He's been a part of, you know, essentially her family for all these years. She doesn't want to upset Jay with this. Um, so she's like losing her mind. And um she's at the bar talking about was it with Heidi? Yes, she was fighting with Heidi and Eric, and she says, Jay made a friend. You slept with your brother. And everybody's like, huh?
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_01Because she's so fixated on the whole situation with Aaron. Yes. So, I mean, I think that's that's it in a nutshell, really.
SPEAKER_03And then she's like, Well, I I love the whole thing about, you know, because when you're at a hotel, they they you're like family. Yeah. When she tries to play off the code. So bad.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Oh, and can we just address the whole like I was giving the bell man a blowjob because Aaron wanted to uh not Aaron, Eric wanted to wait until after the wedding to have sex and I didn't know how to do it. She was practicing on another person.
SPEAKER_03Exactly. No, it was that is so dumb. Yes, I I couldn't agree more.
SPEAKER_01So sorry, I just wanted to make sure we discussed that as well.
SPEAKER_03All right. And so that so this will this will tie into since we're talking about the subplot, this ties into one of the things that I said didn't work. Because it was kind of like Oh, yeah. When she's like, she's like, I I like I had sex with my with my brother, and he's like, You're saying to make love like a black man? I'm like, whoa.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I guess because she's black and her brother would be black. I don't think they meant it like brother, like a brother, like the ghost brothers. I think they meant it like literally her brother would be a black guy, right?
SPEAKER_03But then that would be incestuous, and that would be even more awkward.
SPEAKER_01But I I don't think he was going for the incest.
SPEAKER_03He was going for the brother, he was saying fine. I'm just saying, I'm just that's how I took it.
SPEAKER_01Today's episode brought to you by Pornhub. Wait, what? Because you're getting into like incestuous relationships and sleeping with your brother. So I've gone to this episode brought to you by Pornhub. Stop looking at my search history.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Anyway.
SPEAKER_01All right. Okay. So anyway. So I thought he was going for like your brother would be a black man, I make love like a black man. Right. Like I just didn't read into it that much.
SPEAKER_03Like his other comment, I'm somebody's brother.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. He's everybody's brother.
SPEAKER_01Anyway. I'd prefer he not be my brother.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_01But anyway. Okay. Where were we? So we were talking about that. Was one of the things that you did not think worked. Right. Um, I already talked about the two things that bothered me in this episode, which was the horrifying fashion and Heidi not even changing her clothes before she went to the barrel. Although I think your point about having her all in white was probably the correct one. I still think it was like a real dumb way to do it.
SPEAKER_03It was a stretch to get to there. Yeah. They could have done it some other way. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh, you want to do favorite moments? What's your favorite moments? We did a few of those already, too, but let's talk about it's favorite moments.
SPEAKER_03Favorite moments.
SPEAKER_01Sorry.
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I like the da-da-da-da-da-da.
unknownAh.
SPEAKER_03It's your favorite moments from Wonderfalls. With Andrew and Catherine. All right. Okay, so again, one of mine, I just love Sharon's mom met a man.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was funny. I was like, oh my god. Poor Sharon. The whole episode. Just poor Sharon. She's so desperately trying to hold things together.
SPEAKER_03But you're absolutely right. She does get some of the she gets some of the best lines.
SPEAKER_01She does, and the way she delivers them is fantastic.
SPEAKER_03Yes, she is, she is, she is, she's got great comedic timing. She does. So so good on good on Katie.
SPEAKER_01Um you talked about the next one, Aaron looking at the muses. Yes. Se habla español.
SPEAKER_03Talk to me. Talk to me. Se habla espanol.
SPEAKER_01Um, the next one I have here is the moment you think that Darren has put together about Mahandra and Aaron, but really it's just him processing that he missed Karen's teddy. So great. Wait, there was a teddy? Yeah. Great one. Great line. My next one is it has to have a face. What they're trying to figure out. And then and then she talks about it having to be an animal. Yes. Um, and then my last one was brain damage suits her, which I just thought was really funny.
SPEAKER_03Refer referring to Heidi.
SPEAKER_01Heidi, yeah. Yeah. Brain damage suits her. Um I didn't see any behind the scenes stuff.
SPEAKER_03No, let me let me just take a quick jump on to uh Imdeba.
SPEAKER_01Imdeba.
SPEAKER_02Let's see.
SPEAKER_03Wonderful episodes. Episodes. So this was Lying Pig. Let's see if there's any sweet. I hate pop-ups. They hate you too, they told me. They they're more than welcome to hate me.
SPEAKER_01What? Who? Dart is starting for the Giants on Monday.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I had not seen that.
SPEAKER_03Oh, he finally cleared uh concussion protocol.
SPEAKER_01That dude's had way too many concussions for being a rookie. He gets knocked on the head way too often.
SPEAKER_03Well, they said what four times in eight games?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. His brain is gonna. I mean, yeah. If he doesn't have a CT Right.
SPEAKER_03Oi. Okay, so these are some of the did you knows. Interesting. So on the apparently on I don't know if I don't know if this was in this episode that we saw or the original episode, but they said on the on the soundtrack, apparently, Inside of Love performed by Not a Surf was was in this episode. Oh really? Yes. Um trivia. Eric asks about an all-night chapel on Spring Street.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03Jay replies it is located on Rainbow Boulevard. Both are real streets in Niagara, but Spring Street is in Canada and Rainbow Boulevard is in the U.S.
SPEAKER_01I mean, it is amazing how quickly you can get from the US to the Canada side um at Niagara Falls because we did it. We we ended up on the Canada side like entirely by accident when we went.
SPEAKER_03Interesting.
SPEAKER_01That's how we found Niagara on the lake. Because they are that close to each other that you can just drive right over. I mean, there's an American and a Canadian side of the falls.
SPEAKER_03Interesting. Here's a goof. Okay. A goof. Goof. You goof.
SPEAKER_01You goof.
SPEAKER_03Jay has the macaw wounds that she received in the safety canary in the first scene.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But the wounds disappear in the following scenes, even though the events take place in the following day or so.
SPEAKER_01Well, she has magic healing powers. Perhaps she's a vampire or a vampire slayer.
SPEAKER_03Maybe it was the topical ointment. I don't know. The only quote this is the this is the funniest thing. I want to see if they have if there's any any other trivia. Let's see. Okay, so yeah, so there's that. Jay's handwritten list of muses to destroy uses exact phrases the official episode titles call them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03They do not appear precisely in episode production or air order, though, and do have some extra words and entries as well. Interesting. Yes. Well, you notice there was a lot more muses than what you've seen in the series itself, which I thought was interesting. Let's see if there's any other goofs. The footage of Eric discovering Heidi is different from the footage from Safety Canary.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Jay's list of muses spells apron for the muffin buffalo is Arpin. Fascinating. So some little tidbits of that. Nice. Um, but yeah, so that was again, I think so.
SPEAKER_01Thumbs down on this one.
SPEAKER_03I'd give this one a thumbs up.
SPEAKER_01I would too. Solid. I did too. It was a good episode.
SPEAKER_03Wasn't as as messy as the last episode. For sure. To try to cover just too much, I think. And that would have been much better played out of like two episodes. Yes. But I felt like they were trying to, it was kind of this um almost like an hourglass. Yeah. So you so you've got like the first first half of the season is up here, and then it's trying to squeeze all of that down into the the second half of the season.
SPEAKER_01Um I also wonder when they found out it wasn't going to be picked up for a second season because I have peeked ahead and they do give it an ending. So they had to. I don't know. Well, I guess the ending would be it could have been a cliffhanger for the next end next season if they thought they were getting one.
SPEAKER_03My guess is it was a mid-season replacement, only being 13 episodes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, probably.
SPEAKER_03That's that's typically that's typically the the number of episodes a midseason would would have. So interesting. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know. But anyway, so any other any final parting parting thoughts on on lying pig? I don't think so.
SPEAKER_01No, this was a solid one.
SPEAKER_03I enjoyed it. Let's go uh let's go have some uh Jamaican bacon. Sounds good to me. All right, everyone, thank you again for listening. You know, please, we we we appreciate all of you out there wherever you are across the globe that are listening to this. Um we've got only a few short episodes left.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say 11, 12, 13, three episodes left. And we have to choose our next show. So if anybody has ideas on what you'd like us to cover next, please do tell. Otherwise, we're going to pick something at random.
SPEAKER_03Indeed. Well, I'm still giving my vote to to townies. That's fair. But we'll see. I have some thoughts too. I'm I'm I'm looking forward to it. So what are your thoughts? What's I'm trying to remember the name of the show. Oh. Who's in it? Do you remember what it's about? Anything?
SPEAKER_01I I remember many things about it. I just have to check that it only got one season.
SPEAKER_03Oh.
SPEAKER_01Uh, it was called Revolution. Dang, it got two seasons. You remember that one with Billy Burke? The power goes out? I don't. Yeah, um, it also had the guy who played the Manny on um, what is that? This is us? No. Um, it was the one that had uh the guy who plays Kripke on Big Bang Theory. Um, and oh my goodness. Hold on, I gotta look this up now. Um okay, John Ross Bowie. This is actually a really good show. I'm just not remembering names right now. Yeah. I believe it. Because I watched the whole thing. Speechless. Speechless. It was John Ross Bowie, and this had three seasons, and I watched them all. Uh, Mini Driver. He didn't play the nanny. Who did he? Oh, it was on Zoe's extraordinary playlist. Ah. The guy who came in to take care of her dad toward the end. He was on that show. Got it. Um, but unfortunately, unfortunately, well, fortunately for them, unfortunately for us, it got two seasons, so that's not gonna work. Um, but that was a great show, and I'm obsessed with Billy Burke, so it was really that this had a lot of good people in it. I didn't even realize. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Anyway, so did Townies, and it got well, that's true. It got shot upon.
SPEAKER_01This had um Giancarlo S. Basito. Ooh. It had uh Billy Burke. Did I mention Billy Burke? I love Billy Burke.
SPEAKER_03Mention him again. Who did it have Billy Burke?
SPEAKER_01It was John Favreau and JJ Abrams were executive producers.
SPEAKER_03Like fascinating.
SPEAKER_01It was a really fascinating show because it was like one of those post-apocalyptic the power has gone out. How do we survive now? Right. Um, and of course, people turn on each other because we're humans. Yes, indeed. But anyway, um, that will not be on our list of things that we might be covering. So speaking of which, uh have you did you watch Pluribus? Any of Pluribus yet? I've watched all of Puribus. Oh, you've watched all of Puribus except for today's. I told you because we had the whole conversation about how I am clearly Carol.
SPEAKER_03That's right, duh. We did have this conversation. Holy shit. It's it's I'm distracted by Mulder. I know. Um, no, it came out on it came out Tuesday night. It was supposed to release on Wednesday. Jeez, it was releasing Wednesday because I think of the holiday.
SPEAKER_01Right. I haven't watched it yet because Rob's at his parents.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So then I was I was looking on Apple TV at like 10 o'clock at night on Tuesday, and it was already up, and I'm like, boom, watching. Was it good? Got milk. Great episode. Oh boy. Leaves on like a well, I don't want to say it leaves on a cliffhanger, but it was let me tell you, the the scenes with the drone. Oh no, the drone becomes like its own character. Oh god. I don't, I it's it's not, it's not anything crucial, yeah, but it's what they do, what they do with the drone, yeah, is hysterical.
SPEAKER_01It's like Jeff Hiller's character wasn't crucial, but it was Jeff Hiller, and I was so excited to see him. Love you, Jeff Hiller. Oh my god, Jeff Hiller, you're the best. Please listen, Jeff Hiller. Jeff Hiller, if you're listening, please come on our podcast. Yes. We can talk about anything. Anything you want. And if you have not watched Somebody Somewhere, you must. It is such a great show. Way more than one season, deservedly so. Wish it was still going. A beautiful, heartfelt hilarious show.
SPEAKER_03Emmy winner, Jeff Hiller. Let's let's let's let's give him props.
SPEAKER_01I love Jeff Hiller if for no other reason than I was away on a business trip and he did a book signing, and Andrew took a copy of the book for me as well. Yes. And Jeff Hiller signed the inside of that book, What a Model Divorce.
SPEAKER_03He was such a sweetheart. Yeah. He was so nice.
SPEAKER_01So was Alex Brightman when I did the same thing for you with the with the playbills. Yeah. He also offered to be my new husband, despite already being married.
SPEAKER_03I'd be I'd be his husband.
SPEAKER_01Alex Brightman? Yeah. God, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01He was adorable. I'm sure. So yeah, I mean.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01So anyway. Wonderful actors who are very kind people as well. But anyway, somebody somewhere, watch it. Seriously. Hilarious show. Yes.
SPEAKER_03So good. And and and watch Polurvis. And probably watch Wonderfalls if you're listening to this podcast. Do we really want them to well? Hopefully they've watched Wonderful.
SPEAKER_01It helps them follow along with what we're talking about. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Again, either buy buy the DVD series if you can still find it somewhere, which is maybe on eBay at this point.
SPEAKER_01We found it. Yeah. We got it somewhere. Was it eBay or Amazon? eBay. eBay. I believe.
SPEAKER_03Um, or it's on YouTube. Yeah. Which is where I watch it. Yeah. So anyway, thank thank you again, everyone, for for listening. Um and we'll we'll catch you next time with with the next episode, which is what? Oh, I forget the name of it. Let's take a look. I have I have the I know Cocktail Bunny.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yes, I loved the cocktail bunny.
SPEAKER_03Yes, the cocktail bunny was great.
SPEAKER_01Cocktail bunny was great. Yes.
SPEAKER_03I don't know about the episode, but the cocktail bunny cocktail bunny was funny.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03So anyway, all right. Catch you all next episode. Thank you again, and uh we'll see you then. Bye. Bye.
