Wonderfalls e11 - Cocktail Bunny
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Wonderfalls can be breezy and weird in the best way, so when “Cocktail Bunny” opens on Jaye melting a wax lion on a coffee maker and spiraling at work, we know we’re in for something different. We talk through why this episode feels darker than the rest of the season, how the direction and tone make it stick out, and what that means for a show that already had a short runway before it got canceled after one season.
We follow the muse message “Save him from her” as Jay locks onto the wrong target and starts investigating Heidi to protect Eric. That sleuthing thread delivers classic Wonderfalls banter and some genuinely funny lines, but it also lands on a reveal we don’t let slide: Heidi secretly dosing Eric with “street Viagra.” We get into why consent matters even when a plot is played for comedy, and how the show’s misdirection sometimes creates mess instead of tension.
Then the episode swerves hard into the Angie subplot, with stolen videotapes, an attempted arson, and a frame job that includes the infamous drawer incident. We debate whether introducing a major antagonist this late works as storytelling or just feels like a device to force a twist. Along the way, we highlight the best moments that still shine, including Dr. Ron’s reactions, the monkey bookend’s manipulative little games, and the unforgettable “lick the light switch” payoff.
If you love Wonderfalls, Brian Fuller’s style, or rewatch podcasts about cult TV shows that ended too soon, hit play, then subscribe, share the show, and leave a review. Did “Cocktail Bunny” earn its twist, or did it break the vibe for you?
Season Two Welcome And Premise
SPEAKER_01Alright, so we are trying out the the new welcome to seeking season two. Ahoy Ahoy! And welcome to another episode of Seeking Season 2. I don't think Ahoy Ahoy is better. Ahoy Hoy is not is not working. No. It worked for Mr. Burns. I don't know. Mr. Burns is not a good person. No, but yeah. Okay, so you you know you know the whole have I have I told you the whole background behind Ahoy Ahoy? No. Okay. So for for our listeners, because now they're listening. Um so again, welcome to Seeking Season 2. First of all, let's start there. Welcome to Seeking Season 2. I'm your host, Andrew, and this is my co-host, Catherine. Hello, Catherine. So we are talking about TV shows that got a single season and were canceled either mid-season or at the end of the season or whatever, but they never got a season two. So we are evaluating all the episodes of each each of these TV shows and trying to make a determination for ourselves if they did or did not deserve a second season. So on Second Suitor. Second suitor, the suitor number two. What am I like a sidekick? So anyway, yes. Do they deserve a season two? This season on Seeking Season 2, we are covering Wonderfalls. Which is which is a quirk a quirky little what'd you call I wouldn't call it a comedy a dramedy. I mean, I think it was a sitcom. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But I don't know how well that worked out. There are funny moments.
SPEAKER_01There are funny moments. There are some unfunny moments. But that's not. I don't think that was intentional. So anyway, okay.
SPEAKER_02That's alright. Because now Fizz band is obsessed.
unknownOh man.
SPEAKER_01We have we we have cats among us and they are ill-behaved. Okay, so anyway.
SPEAKER_02He just doesn't know what he's looking at, so he's like super.
SPEAKER_01Oh boy.
SPEAKER_02He's like, what is happening? I mean, if you do want to use any of this for social media, I think this is the moment.
SPEAKER_01Hi, FizBan. Okay, oh, there we go. Excellent.
SPEAKER_02Fiz.
SPEAKER_01Excellent.
SPEAKER_02You gotta get down, buddy.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, FizBan.
SPEAKER_02Fizzy has thoughts.
SPEAKER_01He does.
SPEAKER_02He would like to eat the cocktail bunny.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure he would. Um, all right. So let me go back to Ahoy Ahoy. So so when Alexander Graham Bell first invented the telephone.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's right. Okay.
SPEAKER_01That was they were they were trying to figure out what the greeting would be when someone like answered the phone. And I I but to my recollection, the original, the original response was going to be Ahoy Ahoy.
SPEAKER_02That sounds correct. I sort of remembered it as soon as you started talking about it.
SPEAKER_01Now it's all coming back to you. So Ahoy Ahoy is the is the original greeting for the telephone. But that's you're really enjoying this. I just like Ahoy Ahoy. I like saying Ahoy Ahoy. Um, sorry, Mulder. Did I kick it? Oh, Mulder is around here somewhere. Um, but anyway, um so let's let's dive in.
Cocktail Bunny Setup And Credits
SPEAKER_01So this today in this episode, episode 11, would you believe that? I would. It feels like 11 episodes. Wow. Yeah, it does. Yeah. So this episode is titled What? Cocktail bunny. Cocktail bunny. Cocktail cherries. Is is what the cocktail bunny is.
SPEAKER_02I loved the cocktail bunny. Cocktail bunny was good. Um not as good as Jamaican bacon.
SPEAKER_01Jamaican bacon was definitely was definitely a a c one of the better, one of the better muses. But but cocktail bunny is is a good one. Cocktail bunny's up there. Yes. So this one, so this was this was directed by Todd Holland, this episode. Written by Brian Fuller again, so he's back. Yeah. Flying solo this time. Doesn't doesn't need the four writers to really screw up the episode. And again, Jewel State is back. Yep.
SPEAKER_02You have on your list that Mark Aiken was, but I don't remember that documentary.
SPEAKER_01No, no, I don't believe he was. I I don't think I deleted that in my notes from the last one.
SPEAKER_02Got it.
SPEAKER_01Um so no, Mark Aiken's not back. The the the sexy Irish doctor was was knocked unconscious last episode and does not make a return this episode. So the do you want to cover the synopsis of uh while while FizBan uh interrupts?
SPEAKER_02He's trying to knock the the uh phone off the nightstand. Yes. She's dude. Yes, I would love to. Okay, this is this is our life. Cats are our lives. It's like oh my goodness, I'm gonna have to move though. This is ridiculous. Oh man, he's he's over here. I think if I leave that bedroom, he might leave me alone. I'm not sure. We're gonna stop.
SPEAKER_01It's not gonna happen.
SPEAKER_02I know.
SPEAKER_01All right, so here we go. The synopsis
Save Him From Her Synopsis
SPEAKER_01of episode 11, Cocktail Bunny.
SPEAKER_02When the muses tell her to save him from her, Jay becomes convinced that Eric's life is in danger and begins investigating Heidi. Meanwhile, Jay is coerced by her parents into returning to therapy with Dr. Ron.
unknownDr.
SPEAKER_02Ron springs back, quite frankly, probably my favorite of the muses, which is the monkey book end.
SPEAKER_01The monkey bookend is excellent.
SPEAKER_02I love him so much.
SPEAKER_01I I definitely, definitely one of my favorites. Yeah. I mean, I think the lion will always be the favorite, the wax lion, but I mean, he it's is it like Doctor Who?
SPEAKER_02Your first doctor is your favorite? Your first doctor is your favorite.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I don't know, but but the the monkey book end is is is a fantastic one. He's I love him, he's definitely my favorite. Yeah, he's really good. Agreed. So anyway, so yeah, so it's the the Muse the Muse calling this this week is Save Him from Her. Yep. And she Jay assumes that it's referring to Eric. Right. Um so that's that's where that where that leads. Um, is it actually Eric? We will find out. So let's what you want to dive right into the main plot?
Wax Lions Meltdown Cold Open
SPEAKER_01Let's do it. Let's let's plop into the plot.
SPEAKER_02And I think we'll just go ahead and say up front that Andrew did not really enjoy this episode.
SPEAKER_01It was it wasn't one of my favorites. It was it was how how do I put it? It was it was very it was it was unlike any of the other episodes up until this point. Damn. I feel like I feel like in the what's in in in kind of its um presentation. It just it was it was very dark, it was like very very weird kind of. It was just it was it wasn't it was an odd episode to me. It didn't fit, it didn't fit with the rest of the season. Not that it has to, but it just it sticks out to me like they went a completely different i like direction with production and and direction and everything, cinematography, everything was very different in in this episode. But um starting in the main plot, literally it opens up. I I this was this was my note, literally opens up with Jay having a literal meltdown at Wonderfalls. Like, why? Right. Why I think well, I mean, because I think uh yeah, maybe she had I mean she's got work, so she's I guess she's got to be able to do it, yeah. And on the on the coffee pot on the coffee maker, she is melting down the wax lion slowly.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she wants it to she wants it to hurt.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she's really she's basically torturing the wax lion, melting him down on on the hot plate of the of the coffee maker. Um cut to cut to the uh the repair man outside trying to repair the machine that makes the wax figures. Yes. And he can't he still can't seem to fix this machine. He's trying and trying and trying. And so in his trying, he keeps making new versions of this um malformed wax lion. So then he hands over six of these. He like plops down six of these onto the counter, and he's like, he's like, he's like, I can't fix this, fix this thing. And what does she say? Or what do they say to her?
SPEAKER_02You can't get rid of all of us in unison.
SPEAKER_01In unison. It's just taunting, taunting her. So she she melted down one and they've multiplied to six of them now, in which she freaks out, she's holding the monkey bookend, right, and and just starts in in a fit of rage, just starts smashing these six six wax wax lines.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01Very unfortunate. And what and what go and where do we go from there? Um, I believe then is that when they send her back to Dr. Ron? I think it's when they send her back to Dr.
Dr Ron Therapy And Talking Monkey
SPEAKER_01Ron because um she comes back with the bookend, right?
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Returns the bookend. She returns the bookend to him. And then throughout throughout the episode, there's there's multiple sessions of her just talking with Dr. Ron, and Dr. Ron's trying to like understand what she's talking about, but like the the monkey keeps talking to her.
SPEAKER_02I love the monkey telling her, tell him nothing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. She the monkey's just it's like they're almost like talking, they're almost just like playing with her. Yeah. And I feel like I feel like they're I don't know if I don't know if they're getting back at her for melting down the lion or or what they're doing. Um but interestingly enough, she still listens to them. Yeah. Like after after all that, after getting rid of after the last episode of getting rid of all the muses, like now, now she's she's still still kind of like beholden to them. She's still listening to them. And which is and which is in the end when I she what she's talking to the monkey saying, like, why do you talk to me?
SPEAKER_02Because she listens.
SPEAKER_01Because she listens, yes.
SPEAKER_02Which is kind of the worst answer ever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So yeah, so that that's kind of how that how the whole episode wraps up. But in between, yeah, we get the we get the cocktail bunny. Yeah. She's another one that says save him from her. Yeah. Now, so then so she gets the then Jay steals takes one of the boxes from the barrel.
SPEAKER_02Because she's collecting all the muses.
SPEAKER_01Right? And then she goes, she goes back to I think back to Aaron's room, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because that's where all of the muses are being kept and where Mahandra is hiding in the closet.
SPEAKER_01Right. So there's that whole drama, that whole scene. Yep. And then when does when does the monkey then at some point, well, so what so refresh everybody memory because I'm I'm a little hazy on this one. So she gets back. Is it is this when she realizes that he was keeping all the the muses?
SPEAKER_02Yes, because he had promised he would get rid of them. Right.
SPEAKER_01And instead he said he would take care of them. That's because that was the whole thing. He said he would, quote, take care of them. And so he this is him taking care of them. Um, because in the last episode we saw he was trying to get them to talk to him.
SPEAKER_02Right. And uh this is the episode where Karen says, Aaron is very worried about you. He started praying, and you know how he feels about that sort of thing.
SPEAKER_01So there's some there's some very funny lines in in this one.
SPEAKER_02There are always funny lines, and I think, especially in a Brian Fuller written episode, they're gonna be funny lines.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02But this was just I mean, the whole sequence and this is subplot. Have we covered most of the main plot at this point? Because if so, then do you want to get into the subplots?
SPEAKER_01Well, we haven't gone through the main plot because because Jay is there, there's all sorts of shenanigans going on while Jay is um in her therapy sessions because you you you cut to this mysterious person watching Jay's sessions.
SPEAKER_02So I thought that was kind of subploty, the whole Angie piece. Is that a sub- I mean I mean it was I guess let's talk about it now and then we can back into it to explain what's happening.
SPEAKER_01Because there's it was almost two co-main plots because you were you were following both at the same time. I I
Heidi Suspicion And Street Viagra
SPEAKER_01suppose. But like the the I mean the main plot, if if you want to say the main plot was um Jay trying to save um Eric save Eric from Heidi Ho. Um, because I keep liking to call her Heidi Ho. Nice, saving saving Eric from Heidi. Um, I mean, we we really find out that like Jay keeps trying to figure out thinking that Heidi is trying to kill um kill Eric. Eric, yeah. Which we find out, which we come to find out that she's not trying to kill Eric, obviously. She was she was trying to feed him um Viagra. Street Viagra. Um from the bus boy at the barrel. From the busboy at the barrel. Uh oh my god. What a what a hot mess. Um street Viagra. Yes. Um so anyway, so yeah, so they were they were but they were trying to buy, she bought Viagra from the bus boy, and and that's what she was she was giving to um to Eric. But Jay thought that she was buying pills to poison him. Um Heidi was trying to poison him, which we find out was was not the case at all.
SPEAKER_02Um still kids, it's not cool to feed your significant other Viagra without his knowledge.
SPEAKER_01No, definitely not. I I would I would not I would not buy drugs off of anyone that I didn't well I wouldn't buy drugs off of anyone like that. Uh, first of all.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say, you're not buying a lot of drugs these days?
SPEAKER_01I'm not buying a lot of drugs these days. Uh a lot, just some. Just some. But I don't know. But the whole fentanyl thing, like, I would not I would not trust anybody's like pills. Well, but my point is, yes, even if you did trust the pills, you should not be slipping. No, absolutely not. You should not be slipping something to somebody else without their consent. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02100% that that that's the key here.
SPEAKER_01Mulder's looking at me like he's like, I didn't consent to you giving me those antibiotics.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, sorry, buddy, but yeah, if you can't talk, all bets are off.
SPEAKER_01We got pain pills for you, too, buddy. Let's see how that goes. Yeah, he doesn't seem to be in pain though, so I'm not I'm not too keen on giving him those. I probably wouldn't try anyway. No. Um, but anyway, so that's that's the whole main plot, is that Jay Jay is Jay basically confuses the muses, confuses the muses. That was good. Confuses what the muses say about saving him from her. She's got the wrong him and the wrong her.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01In the main. For for tackling. She tackled. Well, no, it was did she get arrested for tackling hiding? No, or was it the because this is where it was this is where it ties into the subplot.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01For for pooping in the drawer.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
Angie Frames Jay For Arson
SPEAKER_01She pooped in Dr. Ron's drawer. Someone. Someone pooped in Dr. Ron's drawer.
SPEAKER_02And they assume it's Jay.
SPEAKER_01And everything, everything points to Jay. At this point. So Yes.
SPEAKER_02When Jay is at Wonderfalls about to get arrested, there is a woman purchasing, and hold on, I have to pull up the list. She is purchasing a series of supplies. Okay, so the the list of supplies was the Wonderfalls polyblend t-shirt, the Wonderfalls Happy Fun Ball, one gallon of unleaded gas, and the Wonderfalls windproof lighter.
SPEAKER_01And she was purchasing all that at Wonderfalls?
SPEAKER_02I guess everything other than the gas. Right, right, right. And have we seen this character before? Because I felt like we were supposed to know who she was, and I have no recollection of her.
SPEAKER_01I don't think so.
SPEAKER_02Because, and I guess let's get into subplots here. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Subplot.
SPEAKER_02We have two main subplots. Um, the sort of sub-sort of main plot that runs adjacent to Jay's story, which is Angie, the disgruntled former patient of Dr. Ron, who purchased all of the aforementioned uh supplies so that she can set Dr. Ron's office on fire. But she also was the drawer pooper and the stealer of Dr. Ron's. Dr. Ron is videotaping all of his sessions. That seems incredibly unethical. Um didn't like that at all. Yeah, that was a little weird. But um she does all of this to try to frame Jay so that she can get away with essentially murdering Dr. Ron.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02And uh which I guess is kind of what the monkey bookend meant by she's going to kill him and it's gonna be all your fault.
SPEAKER_01No, and it's all because of you.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and it's all because of you.
SPEAKER_01It's all because of you, is what he said. Because she was the what's her name? I can't I can never remember her. Angie. Angie. I think she was upset because she felt that Dr. Ron replaced her like with Jay.
SPEAKER_02Well, I mean, Jay is going five days of week days a week. Right. I liked what he said three days a week, and she said, is that a lot? And he said, you know what, we could do five. And then there's the callback later with Angie and Karen in the elevator, right? Where she Angie, but they both make it look like Angie is intentionally going for Jay, and also that she didn't know that someone was going five days a week, because she doesn't say that Jay is going five days a week. Or I guess maybe she just doesn't say that Jay is going five days a week because it's Karen and you don't want to tip her off.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02Because then Karen is like horrified that someone would be going five days a week, right? Not knowing that it's Jay.
SPEAKER_01Right. Exactly. So yeah, so that's yeah, kind of a wild subplot. Um yeah. And out of nowhere. Right. That's how see that's what I'm saying. It was very dark and very out of nowhere. Like, this is like you know what my problem is like escalated very quickly.
SPEAKER_02I feel like most of the time your subplots involve J andor the characters that you know, right? Because the secondary subplot was like centering around a completely character. Right. Like, I mean, usually the like person of the week that she has to help or whatever is at least with them doing stuff, and this woman doesn't show up until she's buying all the supplies at Wonderfalls, but you don't know that's relevant yet, and then she's stuck in the elevator with Karen.
SPEAKER_01So it's like I mean, she's she's really saving um Dr. Ron. So I mean that's that's who she's saving.
SPEAKER_02No, I get that, but what I'm saying is Angie is key to this, and we don't really meet Angie, so like it's hard to have any kind of connection, right, or even empathy for this crazy, crazy person, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it's Very again a little messy. A little messy in the writing there.
SPEAKER_02And quite frankly, as she was going up that elevator with Karen, I I initially was like, is this a stripper? Because she was wearing that bizarre blue vinyl coat and the matching cap.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah, it was again, it it gave me gave me hints of um what's the what's the other leap pay show?
SPEAKER_02Pushing daisies.
SPEAKER_01Pushing daisies, thank you. Fizzy is fighting me from my own.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01FizBan. Behave.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. He can't hear you.
SPEAKER_01I know he can't.
SPEAKER_02I have headphones in.
SPEAKER_01Okay, got him back. So so cut to my eyes, at the at the end, nearing the
Lick The Light Switch Payoff
SPEAKER_01end of the episode. One of my favorite things, the muses say, lick the light switch.
SPEAKER_02And she's like, I'll lick the light switch if you tell me why you talk to me.
SPEAKER_01And he's like, all right, I well, we'll lick the light switch first.
SPEAKER_02Who was telling her to lick the light switch? Was it the monkey or was it someone else? I think it was the monkey. Was it? Because she said, Why do you talk to me? Who told her ask the monkey?
SPEAKER_01That was someone before when they said that she's because she said, Who's gonna kill?
SPEAKER_02Oh, ask the monkey.
SPEAKER_01And they said, Ask the monkey.
SPEAKER_02And then she's asking him, Why do you talk to me? And he just keeps saying, lick the light switch and I'll tell you.
SPEAKER_01It might have been the lion. No, it wasn't one of the lions.
SPEAKER_02Um, fizzy just got me.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_02Sir. Very rude. Very rude.
SPEAKER_01No, stop. Yeah, but someone told him to ask the monkey, and that was the that's why she was trying to figure out from him who was trying to kill whom. Um yeah, I can't remember because I wrote down ask the monkey, but I can't remember who who said it. Yeah, I can't either. Yeah. Um, so anyway, so it all it all wraps up. Again, Jay early on figures out that um it's not Heidi trying to kill Eric. But then she's like, Who's who am I saving from whom? Like, what's going on? And she can't she can't figure it all out. And because Dr. Dr. Rongett starts getting very freaked out because um because they were saying because the monkey kept saying she's going to kill him, right? And and she kept repeating it. She's like, she's going to kill him. And and Dr. Ron's like, is the monkey talking to you? Like, is the monkey talking to you right now? What is the monkey telling you to do? And she's like, She's going to kill him. But you see, and he's like, Whoa, whoa, what? He's freaking out.
SPEAKER_02I like when he's like, Do you do everything they tell you to do?
SPEAKER_01Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02She's like, Yeah, they wore me down that way.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god. Such such an uh it was it was a very interesting episode, but again, not one of my faves.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, not one of your faves.
SPEAKER_01Not one of my faves.
SPEAKER_02But anything you have a top three moments? Because I do.
SPEAKER_01Um, well, let's go through yours and then okay. I really just want to be. I'll tell you, I'll tell you, I honestly couldn't couldn't come up with anything on on this episode, to be perfectly honest with you.
SPEAKER_02All right, except for maybe lick the light switch. Let's do that. Okay, yeah, lick the light switch. You did like I have um when she first goes back to Dr. Ron and the book the bookend tells her tell him nothing. That just made me laugh. I was like, okay, she's just gonna sit there silently then. Like, what the hell, man?
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02Um, I liked when they were uh, and this was part of the the Jay and Mahandra researching Heidi because they were convinced that she was going to kill Eric. Um, she discovers that Heidi's maiden name is Socket, and uh Mahandra says, Horrible yet appropriate.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there were so many wild, like misdirection things like the yeah, the photographs that Jay was taking. Yeah. So when Jay was photographing Heidi spying on her, trying to figure out what she was doing, then Mahandra was like, Oh, they someone already picked up the photos. And Jay automatically assumed it was Heidi. Right. But then it was actually the mother, but then the mother put him under the door of the the trailer, and then Heidi, and then Heidi was there and saw them, so it's a whole big thing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Heidi breaking into Jay's trailer. Why are people always breaking into Jay's trailer? I know, got better luck, girl.
SPEAKER_01I know, seriously, yeah. Like, oh my god.
SPEAKER_02My final one was another Sharon. Yes. Um, when Jay busts out of the jail and Sharon yells, she's on the lamb.
SPEAKER_01She again, she's got such great comedic timing. Yeah, but Katie Vennerin's great. I am just I'm a I'm a she's gotta be one of my I gotta be she's probably I'm probably like the biggest fan of her out of I mean Lee Pace for other reasons, but yeah, uh but in terms of acting ability, Katie Venerin absolutely hundred percent. Um I don't know if it's just I don't know if it's because they gave her some of the best lines in the script or it's just how she um how she delivered them. Yeah, but either way, either way, she's she's fantastic.
SPEAKER_02I agree. So those were my top three, and yes, you and your top only.
SPEAKER_01My top one.
SPEAKER_02Um charge by itself.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, let's do that.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02So I really liked um two things that happened with Dr. Ron toward the end. Uh-huh. So Dr. Ron is finding a way to get out of the room because he wants to call the police because he thinks Jay's about to murder him, right?
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02And I I literally rewound this so that I got it. Um, I got the quote correct. It was Dr. Ron says to Jay, if you'd rather speak to the monkey privately, I can step into the next room. Nice. And I thought that was so funny. Um, and then I really liked the moment that Dr. Ron realized what save him from her meant. Yes. Because I'll be interested to see what happens in the next two episodes in terms of like he sort of believes her now. Because, you know, Angie came in and tried to murder him, and he's like, oh, save him from her. So uh I like that he gifts Jay the monkey bookend, too. That was pretty a nice touch. I think he's freaked out by it, but you know, I'm sure she'll take it for her collection of muses.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure.
SPEAKER_02And then one of the things that I did not like, and we talked
Best Lines And Top Moments
SPEAKER_02about this a little bit yesterday, but also I'm guessing in our last episode, by the time this comes out, um, when Eric gives his two weeks' notice at the barrel, yes, and Heidi's all pissy about it because she wants to go back to Jersey, uh-huh, and he says, we could just stay in the honeymoon suite for two more weeks? How much money he's been living at the barrel? How do they have two weeks worth of honeymoon suite money?
SPEAKER_01I have no Heidi must be loaded.
SPEAKER_02I I would guess. I don't know why else he's staying with her. I mean, you know, he says he's committed to making the relationship work, but they're not having sex. He doesn't even seem to like her much, right? I I I know it's uh it doesn't and I mean, quite frankly, the character is thoroughly unlikable.
SPEAKER_00So what's in your wallet? Oh my god, I've got a tiny little baby voice.
SPEAKER_03Exactly. I'm adorable, right?
SPEAKER_01I know I know what what what about her is likable? Nothing, nothing, and that is not a slight on Jules State, who I love. No, exactly. The character, it's the character that's unlikable.
SPEAKER_02And all you really know about Heidi is that she got down on her knees for the bell boy, apparently to learn how to give a blowjob. I it is the dumbest thing I've ever heard, right? And I genuinely expected that to just be bullshit, and hey, maybe it will be proven to be, but I mean, come on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was it was all it was again, the episode really didn't work for me. The whole the whole tr attempt at misdirection was really, I think, poorly executed.
SPEAKER_02I thought so too. That's what I was trying to say earlier with the whole like you you misdirected us with a character that we don't know, right? We don't understand her motivation. Um, we don't really see anything until you get to the elevator scene where I thought Karen was portrayed really nicely. Right. Um she got that girl to open up um amazingly well.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02I tend to forget that Karen is meant to be a like travel book author. Right. I always think she's a psychiatrist for some reason. Yeah, she's got that vibe. I think she's a therapist, right?
SPEAKER_01She's got that vibe.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. The only she did a nice job of you know keeping Angie from killing Dr. Ron at the end of the day.
SPEAKER_01There, there's remember early on in the episode, there's a vague mention about Angie that I that I think Sharon mentions her at some point about remember the girl that tried to stab Dr. Ron or stabbed herself. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02There's there's like a vague mention of her, which is right, because then Karen says something about like, oh, but you know, trying to stab him.
SPEAKER_01Right. It was that that's like that was like their like, oh see, that was foreshadowing.
SPEAKER_02Like, lame, lame, lame, lame foreshadowing of a character we've never met before that we'll never see again. Oh, hold on, there's a tussle happening on the bed here. Right. Boys.
SPEAKER_01Cats wrestling.
SPEAKER_02I love that, like, even though Jordi is what is he, like five or six pounds heavier than Fizzy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Fizzy has always got the upper hand. He's scrappy.
SPEAKER_00He is. They're so cute. I know, they're adorable. Love those cats.
SPEAKER_02Um Geordy's little face. I know. Nothing behind those eyes. Those big dumb eyes.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02Oh, oh.
SPEAKER_01Fizzy. I know they can't hear me, but Fizzy's vicious. Oh my. But but anyway, again, again, yeah, it was it was it was just really like you said, to to introduce a character for a single episode.
SPEAKER_02It was it was just literally to advance the plot. I mean, that was her only function, was advancing the plot. Like, come on.
SPEAKER_01It was just pure misdirection, and it was just it was just uh because the whole save him from her, they had it like you knew it couldn't, like, it wasn't gonna be it was too obvious that it was Heidi trying to kill Eric. So it's like so they had to like throw somebody in there, but it couldn't be another main character. Because if it was another main character, then it's like they're trying to kill somebody? No, so it was just a whole, it was just like I said, the whole thing did
Thumbs Verdict And What Failed
SPEAKER_01not did not work for me, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this is not an episode for you, so I think thumbs up, thumbs down. I think you're going thumbs down.
SPEAKER_01Definite thumbs down for me.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna go thumbs sideways, thumbs sideways. That's that I really enjoyed. Yeah. Um, there were other aspects, like the whole Angie subplot was so dumb.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I agree. I I completely agree.
SPEAKER_02You're not gonna get an argument from me on that one, but I did enjoy the I did enjoy a lot of the stuff with the muses. I did enjoy um I I am finding the whole Mahandra is trying to hide the Aaron, oh, sorry, excuse me. The whole Aaron relationship. I mean, it's pretty funny the way she is just like desperate to uh hide the fact that she and Aaron have hooked up now. Yes. I did enjoy there was a nice moment between Aaron and Mahandra where he says, Do I make you happy? And or I make you happy, and she says, Yes, yes, you do. Um, I thought that was really sweet. Yeah. So I mean, I think there's been a lot of, yeah, like I'd say this episode, I'm I'm good with thumbs sideways. This episode was like 50% entertaining and 50% like unnecessary in my mind.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I I agree. I wouldn't necessarily give it a full thumbs down. Maybe, maybe like a south-southwest, like three quarters down, three quarters down, three quarters down. Not a not a full down, but three quarters down. Um again. Any any episode where they where they tell the main character to lick the light switch, like I'm like, there there is something there is something redeeming in this episode, and and that that and Karen's um character development of of her in the elevator. The elevator scene I thought was fantastic.
SPEAKER_02Um I agree. So what's happening here? So there are some things I can hear you. Something's going on with my riverside. I can't get the camera back up. Uh oh. Hold on. I'm gonna try something here. I was going to look for okay, there we go. I was going to look for trivia and whatnot, and then the camera wouldn't come back. Oh, weird. Sorry. That's all right. Okay, you were talking about Karen in the elevator.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so so I'll I I'll I'll I'll roll back my previous statement that nothing in this episode worked for me. There were so there were some some redeeming parts to it.
SPEAKER_02Um I thought there were some nice moments in this one.
SPEAKER_01There's some nice moments in it, but over like overall as an episode, I don't think it worked. Um I agree.
SPEAKER_02That's why I'd go sideways. I didn't love the episode, but I liked a lot of aspects of the episode.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay. I will I will I will maybe change my vote and like like the main main plot. I'll say the main plot uh subplot actually was better. Um I'll I'm I'm I'm I'll maybe give it an almost almost almost sideways. Almost sideways thumb. Um okay. You've con you've convinced me. Um oh thank you.
SPEAKER_02I convinced you there's some redeeming aspects to this episode.
SPEAKER_01Yes, absolutely. So yeah, so so that was that was again, that was Cocktail Bunny. Again, not not one of their best episodes. There were there were there were some great parts to it, I think. Um but we'll see. This was really, I think, the third of the the big story arc of Heidi, because Heidi's now gone back to Jersey to find them an apartment, to find them an apartment, so which is probably cheaper than what they just paid on like a month in the honeymoon site. And Eric has Eric had to give two weeks notice, so he's staying in um in Niagara Falls for another couple of weeks.
SPEAKER_02But did he what they they basically said he doesn't need to give notice, right? He doesn't want to leave, right?
SPEAKER_01Well, because that was a whole comment about they're like laying off a bunch of people, right?
SPEAKER_02Who who are they laying off? Who are all the people who work there? Right. I only ever see Mahondra and Eric. Well, that's why, because they're the only ones doing that's why everyone else is getting laid off.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's the whole reason everyone else is getting laid off because no one else is working.
SPEAKER_02Also, I think um for like $35, Heidi bought an entire bag of Viagra.
SPEAKER_01Not a bad deal.
SPEAKER_02I mean, seriously, that uh that would also make me suspicious, though.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know what? It's Canadian drugs, that's what it is. They're much cheaper.
Goofs Trivia And Extra Quotes
SPEAKER_02I actually paused the the show to see if it was Canadian money because it looked a little off, and I was like, did they accidentally use Canadian money? Like, what's going on? But then it was American money, so I don't know.
SPEAKER_01See, that's the whole thing. Is that's why you're you're buying Canadian drugs. Is that a loony? Is that a toonie? Ooh, the loonies and toonies. Love me some loonies and toonies. Um but anyway. All right, so so again, okay, half sideways thumb on this episode from both of us. Um, we'll see, we'll see what happens next episode. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, I'm uh do we want to do is there any behind the scenes or trivia? That's what I was starting to look for.
SPEAKER_01Was there any behind the scenes or trivia on this one?
SPEAKER_02Let me look.
SPEAKER_01Let's see. Oh, goofs. Oh, yeah. So you want to hear all sorts of things?
SPEAKER_02I do.
SPEAKER_01So I don't know if there's any I don't know if there's any trivia. Um continuity issue. Jay is instructed to lick the light switch, causing a power outage in Dr. Ron's building. When Jay licks the light switch, the switches are both in the on position. Immediately after the power outage, the light switches are in the off position when they should be in still be in the on position and the lights be off due to the power failure. Interesting. Interesting.
SPEAKER_02No actual trivia for this episode, but but there's because everybody thought it was as bad as we did. I don't know. Yeah, let's see.
SPEAKER_01I love I love some of the some of the quotes. Um what was the one I was just looking at? Dr. Ron, what makes you think the monkey was talking to you? Well, it looked at me and talked. Oh geez. There was that whole there was that whole scene. Remember when when Mahandra saw all the video cameras? Because he was he was monitoring the oh yeah. She's like, shut him off, shut him off. She's like, are you recording us right now? Did you record us having sex? Is it on the internet? Oh my god, I'm a naughty, I'm a naughty black door woman, backdoor woman. Oh my god. Poor Mahandra. Seriously. Aww. But okay, so there were so there were some some redeeming parts to this episode for sure, but anyway. No, no trivia.
SPEAKER_00I'm looking to see if there's anything else. Ah, okay. Oh, interesting.
SPEAKER_01Apparently there's a reference in a pushing daisies episode to this episode. Interesting. There's the facts of life song that was sung in this episode.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was weird. Why did she sing the facts of life theme song?
SPEAKER_00I I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I was like, is this Garrett? What? Who was that actress? We actually didn't call her out as a guest star.
SPEAKER_01We didn't. Angie, Angie, Angie, Angie, Angie. Patricia Zentilli.
SPEAKER_02Let's see, she's a Canadian actress.
SPEAKER_01She was on the Jane show for twenty-six episodes. What is the Jane show? I think it's a good one.
SPEAKER_02I mean, the last thing she appears to have been on was in like 2006.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I mean let's see. I feel like she potentially worked a lot in Canada. I think that's the case. Actress sing oh I found her in Instagram. Actors, singer, artist, mother, vocal coach. Morley and vinyl cafe, the musical. Trans rights are human rights. Okay. Okay, Patricia Zentilly.
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay. Yep, good for her. Yeah. All right.
SPEAKER_01All right. Anything else? I don't think so. You got anything? I'm I'm good. I think that's all right. I think that covers the episode. So covers another sode of Wonderfalls. Another sode.

SPEAKER_01Yes, yes, indeed. Mulder's Mulder's okay.
SPEAKER_02Mulder's on the mend.

We will catch you next episode, episode 12. What's the hang on, let me look at uh let me go back. What is episode 12? Is totem mole. Interesting. Yes. Oh, this uh this this this can this can only be good. Jay visits an Indian reservation with Sharon.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I'm sure that'll be handled in a very um a very yeah what's the word I'm looking for?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I know what you mean.
SPEAKER_02Empathetic? No. Um sympathetic? I don't want to say politically correct, because that's not what I mean, but um I'm sure this will be horrible, is what I'm trying to say. Yes. I I can't I can only assume they're going to be well dis disrespectful.
SPEAKER_01Respectful. That's that's the word. Respectful.
SPEAKER_02I'm sure this will be handled in a very respectful way.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I because I'm I'm looking at all the people that are uh playing playing the uh indigenous people.
SPEAKER_02Uh are they all Hispanic?
SPEAKER_01It can only go well.
SPEAKER_02Oh goody.
SPEAKER_01No, no, she's uh no, she's actually, I think, American Indian. Oh, she was on Orphan Black. Interesting. Dr. Virginia Cody. I remember her.
SPEAKER_02Is Gil what's his face in this one? Gil? You know who I oh, okay. Hold on. Uh yes, Gil Birmingham. If you Google him, you will understand why I ask this, because he is um he is an actor of Native American descent and they use him in everything. You need a casino owner, it's Gil Birmingham.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, I know who he is.
SPEAKER_02Billy Black in the um Twilight movies. Like, if you need someone to play a Native American, he's your man.
SPEAKER_01No, they they actually they actually have like indigenous people of Canada and and America.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's wonderful.
SPEAKER_01Um so so hopefully they did they're not selling out their uh that there's a tribal judge, a young I love the they're characterized as young native. Interesting. So we'll we'll we'll see how they do, we'll see how respectful they are of the indigenous people uh in this next episode.
SPEAKER_02I'm sure we'll have opinions. I'm sure. One thing we never lack for.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. That was I was just Jackie. Because we're getting to that time of the year, I uh it just makes me think of festivus, and I got a lot of problems with you people, and you're gonna hear about it. I got a lot of problems with this this episode, and you're gonna hear about it. Welcome to the well, welcome to Seeking Season 2, the airing of the grievances. Oh boy.
